Locating Industry Surveys and Market Reports in Business Source

Your results will be more focused if you narrow your search to a geographic area. Here, we see a sample search for the airline industry in the United States, using the “GE Geographic Terms” search limiter.

The easiest way to locate industry surveys and market reports in BSP is to enter the name of the industry or market you’re researching, then choose “SU Subject Terms” from the pulldown menu.

The search result of 13,865 items is a bit daunting, but we won’t use all of them. Scroll down a bit in the page to get to “Source Types” on the left side of the screen.

The menu under “Source Types” allows you to limit your search results to (among other options) industry profiles. Click “Show More” for additional options, like market research reports and country reports.

For this search, we’ll limit ourselves to “Industry Profiles;” however, you can also expand the search to include market research reports, SWOT analyses, and other types of sources. When you’ve made your selection, click “Update.”

The airline industry profile for the United States is the first thing listed. Click “PDF Full Text” for the document.

You can now print out the entire document or e-mail it to yourself, using the icons on the right side of the screen.
