INTERACTIVE APPLICATION IN PROCESSING

15

Project Title: Wild Growth

This is a playful interactive project which is an interactive processing that generating a drawing by analyzing live video. Initially, I try to employ people’s body as painting tool to randomly draw a color-ful abstract paint. My inspiration is jackson pollock. He is a major figure in abstract expressionist movement, and he was well known for his unique style of drip painting. It seems disordered, but con-tain mysterious rules and tensive system. I’m fascinated in this kind of aesthetics. Especially in digital art, order and disorder, algorithmic and hand-made, are obscure definition and be blurred their boundary.

Back to my work, I combined two parts which are camera analyzing system and visual part(particles system). All the colors is be picked by live camera “eye”. That means what it sees, and what it draws. It reminds me to take my computer go to natural environment, or face to a picture or a video, or put in front of a viewer as if draw a quick portrait paint. Therefore, I take it to somewhere and get those ran-dom screen still pictures.

Manufactured Landscape

* Title:《Manufactured Landscapes-No Title》

* Date: 2010

* Type: Video work

* Size: 720×576(Pixel)

* Running Time: 6 Minutes 1 Seconds

* This work was created in 2010. It is firstly presented in an intricate space. It is first time that I found the interesting relationship between space and vision. I found that the complicated structure in the space could rebuild the interior space. This work provides an immersive experience that allow audience to participate.Visitors walk through in this space as a kind of "static sculptures". In the other side, they might feel that they wander in a part of "artificial scenery"(manufactured landscape).

* Date: 2011

* Material: line screen, projector, audio equipment

* Size: 20*12*3 (unit:meter)

* Running Time (video): 12 Minutes 28 Seconds

* This is an audiovisual installation work, inspired by Chinese ancient paintings, especially artist Ma Yuan’s “Shui Tu”. From these ancient paintings, I perceived its poetry and tranquility. In contrast, in my work, all the visual elements are made by new media digital methods, such as algorithm art, and generative methods. It also conveys the concept of sound visualization and the influence to perception.
