Literacy through Sports JournalismHealth and Wellbeing

You will look at the portrayal of sport in printed and digital media. The course will bepractical and theoretical where you will write reports on curricular sport and school fixturesfor various media outlets - mainly the LHS Sport Journalism blog and podcast -lhssportsjournalism.blogspot.co.uk. You will also gain some work experience working withlocal journalists at teams such as Stenhousemuir & Falkirk FC.

Learning Intentions Success CriteriaI will:

● critically analyse a variety of texts from featurepieces, to match reports and opinion pieces.

● be able to find, select, sort, summarise, link anduse information from different sources.

● learn how to take short hand notes generateand develop ideas, retain and recallinformation, explore problems, make decisions,and create original text.

● learn how to use questioning and how toconduct and transcribe interviews.

● regularly select subject, purpose, format andresources to create texts of their choice andstyle.

● give oral presentations and learn aboutbroadcast journalism.

I can:

● read an article and express my thoughts andfeelings on it.

● ask questions and take shorthand notes.

● give a brief presentation on a sports writer ofmy choice.

● write reports for the Larbert Link sportsmagazine.

● identify different journalistic styles and knowthe differences between print and digital media.

● meet deadlines and word limits and useMicrosoft word and publisher to design asports 'back-page'.
