Chapter 5 audio link – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EYePGA4X7h8&feature=emb_title
Chapter 6 audio link – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cv_4xPVmRuc&feature=emb_title Chapter 5: Task 1: Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home
Mike Nicholson mentions the Dog and Cat home. Have a look on the website and learn more
about the cats and dogs that are looking for a new home. https://edch.org.uk/
Consider what you’d like to know about the animals on the site. Create a table to organise and
show information you find.
1- Think about what you’d like to research, what information do you think is important? (eg-
name, type of animal, likes, dislikes and other information.)
2- Create a table that you can fill in. (There is an example below.)
Animal Name Description Likes Dislikes
Cat Bamboo Ginger and white stripes To be alone Garden
Head rub
Young children
3- Fill in your table! Do you have a favourite animal? Why?
Chapter 6: Task 2: Sir Henry Raeburn
In chapter 6, we hear about Sir Henry Raeburn. Use your safe research skills to find out the
following information and don’t forget to organise your information using subheadings:
● Was Sir Henry Raeburn a real person living in Edinburgh? If so, who was he? Why was he
called ‘sir’? When did he live? What was he well known for? Any other facts?
● Does Raeburn Place in Stockbridge have any connection to Sir Henry Raeburn?
● Was there really an old pond that dried up? What happened?
We also heard that there were the Raeburn Vaults. Can you find the following information:
● What is a vault? What vaults are there in Edinburgh and why? What are they used for?
Task 1:
Using the ‘Spelling Story’ can you
write a passage of text that contains
all ten of your spelling words? It’s not
as easy as you think!
Task 2:
Please do a spelling assessment on
Friday.
Complete the task in jotter. Spelling
lists are attached to this overview.
Task 3: Chapters 5 & 6 Tricky Words
What do the following words mean?
Can you use them in a sentence?
Frenetic, jeopardize, apparent,
corrosive, vortex, maudlin,
bemused, triumphantly.
Were there any other words that
impressed you? Explain why.
Can you think of other words that
have the same meaning for these
words?
