The Client Brief and Design Criteria

The main design criteria for the proposed Heritage Skills Centre is driven by the client's wish to create a highly sustainable and flexible centre for the teaching of Heritage Skills that could be located within the Castle and in such a way as to be as unobtrusive as possible within the Castle grounds but at the time be

designed to provide a positive architectural contribution to the site and fall within the budgetary constraints.

Initial business planning advice indicated that the facility should create flexible

workshop space for the teaching of stained glass, stone masonry, lime technology (i.e. lime mortars, brickwork, stonework, plastering, rendering and pointing) bench joinery and their application in the preservation of the historic

environment.
