Body Mechanics

• Never stand on outside of feet/ankles

• Don’t pound on heels

• Don’t prop heels up on furniture

• Wear properly fitted shoes

Body Mechanics

• Never stand with foot planted and twist body

• Never pry the knee out to the side

– Don’t sit indian style

– Don’t do butterfly stretch

– Don’t cross legs

• Don’t stand on outside of feet/ankles

External rotators of the hip

Internal rotators of the hip

The hip joint and ligaments

Psoas and iliacus muscles

Body Mechanics

• Don’t use leg out to the side

– Get in and out of car properly

• Don’t externally rotate the hip

– Don’t sit indian style or cross legs

• Don’t pry leg behind you

– Quadriceps stretch

Potassium

• Psoas muscle spasm; think hypokalemia

• Muscle cramps

• Depression/anxiety, constipation, low stomach acid, slow digestion, insomnia

• RDA of K is 4,700 mg or 63 mEq

• Lose it through sweating, vomiting, diarrhea, medications

• Magnesium is important for absorption of potassium
