TFT23

You.

TFT23

Taverner.

TFT23

Agenda.

TFT23

What matters now?

TFT23

Dichotomous

consciousness

TFT23

Your pint is

half full.

TFT23

But only ‘cos someone

pissed in it.

TFT23

Every one over-

indulged.

TFT23

Two years after sub-

prime debt…

TFT23

…the bankers have

their donuts.

TFT23

And I have two plasma

tellies.

TFT23

Facebook is a verb.

TFT23

And “I’m tweeting it

out…” is

common vocabulary.

TFT23

But really…

TFT23

Does Jamie give a shit

if you cannot cook his

30 minute meal in 30

minutes?

TFT23

Of course he does.

TFT23

Tellie equals youtube equals twitter equals

book sales equals luvvly jubbly.

TFT23

I have 3 or 4 laptops, an iPad, an iPhone and

some shitty HTC thingy.

TFT23

And I’m living the dream.

TFT23

“I love the smell of data in the

morning.”

TFT23

Apparently my books are in the cloud.

TFT23

As is my bank, my mates, my health records, my credit rating, my entertainment…

TFT23

I have apps on all my devices to make me more productive…

TFT23

And more importantly, connected.

TFT23

And I worked out I spend about 4 weeks

of my life per year doing it.

TFT23

#1.Being ‘networked’ 30 days#2. Being on holiday 25 days#3. On facebook 20 days

#4. Doing sport 6 days

TFT23

So…

TFT23

What Matters Now?

TFT23

My mortality .

Ref: Tom ‘Sonic’ Hopkins and the fear of death.

TFT23

My girls.

TFT23

And that they grow up properly.

TFT23

Eating fruit.

TFT23

And buying Apple.

TFT23

Knowing that in fact the world people like

me are designing is the one they will live

in.

TFT23

A world where we designed-in some

kinda social anxiety such that they’ll spend

more time logged in than out.

TFT23

What Matters Now?

TFT23

The person next to me.

TFT23

And if they feel OK.

TFT23

TFT23

Try it.

Give something away.

TFT23

These people gave us their time and bright

ideas.

TFT23

We care but we don’t Know what to do about it.

We care and we will do something about it.

We don’t give a shit and we wont do anythingabout it.

We don’t care enoughTo do anything about it.

TFT23

The right to live one's life, in privacy and freedom, in

whatever way one wants, so long as others are not harmed,

should be a sacred principle in a democracy.

TFT23

The experience of the race shows that we get our most

important education not through books but through our work. We are developed by our daily task, or else demoralized by it, as by

nothing else.

TFT23

Internet journalism is not a world we know

very well at all. It’s conducted on screens more than it is in

bars which makes it rather less useful for getting stories about people throwing up over one

another.

TFT23

Happiness is not in the mere possession of money; it lies in the joy of achievement, in the

thrill of creative effort.

TFT23

Call it a clan, call it a network, call it a tribe, call it a family:

Whatever you call it, whoever you are, you need one.

TFT23

Our Age of Anxiety is, in great part, the result of trying to do

today's jobs with yesterday's tools .

TFT23

Our achievements of today are but the sum total of our

thoughts of yesterday. You are today where the thoughts of

yesterday have brought you and you will be tomorrow where the

thoughts of today take you.

TFT23

Let us not be satisfied with just giving money.

Money is not enough, money can be got, but they need your

hearts to love them. So, spread your love everywhere

you go.

TFT23

We are drowning in information but starved

for knowledge.

TFT23

Instead of a bottom-line based on money and power,

we need a new bottom-line that defines productivity

and creativity as where corporations, governments,

schools, public institutions, and social practices are

judged as efficient, rational and productive not only

to the extent they maximize money and power, but to

the extent they maximize love and caring, ethical and

ecological sensitivity, and our capacities to respond with

awe and wonder at the grandeur of creation.

We care but we don’t Know what to do about it.

We care and we will do something about it.

We don’t give a shit and we wont do anythingabout it.

We don’t care enoughTo do anything about it.

What Matters Now?

Beers.
