Lessons of Hope from Bethany

An open message.

Sunday, July 17, 2011Speaker: Dr. David Dawson

Luke 10:38-42 - English Standard Version (ESV)

38Now as they went on their way, Jesus entered a village. And a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house. 39And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to his teaching.

40But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, "Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me."

41But the Lord answered her, "Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, 42but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.”

Lessons from Bethany

1. As followers of Christ we ought to balance our worship of Christ and our work for Christ.

Lessons from Bethany

1. As followers of Christ we ought to balance our worship of Christ and our work for Christ.

2. As followers of Jesus, we ought to make a Bethany out of our homes and our hearts.

John 11:25,26 (NIV)

25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; 26 and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?”

Job 19:25-27 (NIV)

25 I know that my Redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand upon the earth.

26 And after my skin has been destroyed, yet in my flesh I will see God;

27 I myself will see him with my own eyes—I, and not another. How my heart yearns within me!

Lessons from Bethany

1. As followers of Christ we ought to balance our worship of Christ and our work for Christ.

2. As followers of Jesus, we ought to make a Bethany out of our homes and our hearts.

3. As followers of Jesus, we ought to celebrate daily our certain Resurrection. Because He lives, we shall live also. (John 11:25,26; 1 Corinthians 15:50-58; 1 Thess. 4:13-18)
