TRANSCRIPT

– Understand how emotions and storytelling can be shown through animations

– Get into pairs and brainstorm ideas for your own animation

– Choose an emotion and develop this emotion into your story

– Start writing a script for your animation

Objectives

The Animation Process

The animation process…

Animations

• Think about your favourite cartoon….• How does your cartoon show emotions such as

happiness or sadness?• Why do you think the following are important

within animation? Have 2 minutes of thinking time……

• music• sound effects

• close ups• Facial expressions/body language

Task One – Create a mind map

• In pairs mind map your thoughts on the plot, the scenes, the characters and the setting

• Characters do not have to be humans, aliens etc. They can be just blobs of clay that do so something or turn into something. They can be fruit, simple animals....

• You will only have the opportunity to include background music – NOT speech!

Your Script – A written description of the actions that will take place in your movie

In your pairs, complete your

script.You have 10

minutes

What is a storyboard?

• Once a script is written for a film or animation, the next step is to make a storyboard. A storyboard visually tells the story of an animation panel by panel, kind of like a comic book.

Your storyboard should include some of the following information:

• What characters are in the frame, and how are they moving?

• What changes will you make in each frame• Where the "camera" is in the scene? Close or far

away?

Example of storyboard

You now need to start creating your own storyboard

PLENARY

• Why is it important to storyboard and script our ideas before we begin to create our own animation?

• How can emotions be shown through animation?

• State something new that you have learned in lesson?

• How did you find today's lesson activities?
