Challenge

The key creativity in this project was in showcasing the lego-like experience

in working with ICF. In order to pull this off, the team coordinated efforts to

paint the blocks and stage the job site so the ICF block stacking could take

place in one day. The team took great care in staggering the pattern to truly

resemble a home built with lego-like pieces.

In the first build day, 500 people stopped by to check out the project and

inquire about the build. With so much media attention and high levels of

visitation, job site safety was a high priority, and the team had to ensure the

painted ICF blocks and construction site looked sharp. A YouTube video of

the build process has generated more than 46,700 views to date!

This home’s outstanding architectural features include high ceilings, arched

openings, a private in-law suite with its own kitchenette, and a patio seating

area designed to house two families comfortably.

Sustainability

The homeowners truly appreciate an energy-efficient

home thanks to ICF properties and other sustainable

design decisions. The garage was placed on the west

side of the home along with the master bath and

closet to shield the main living areas from the intense

Arizona sun. In addition, the HVAC system was all zoned

throughout the house, and the attic was spray-foam

insulated, and all of the interior walls were insulated as

well for sound and energy efficiency.

Budget

The project was completed within budget with one

additional expense: paint for the blocks.

Timing

The entire ICF wall structures were built in one day, an

impressive example of the ease of building with Fox
