    English Dialogue Jen: Now all you have to do is tie the knot with Brad and youll be living every girls dream.

    Kayla: Whoa, whoa, whoa! Is that all you think of marriage? Listen, Im not the stay at home to

    cook and clean type.

    Jen: You think youd have to trade in your career to be a housewife? Brad doesnt strike me as the old

    fashioned type.

    Kayla: You forget hes pushing 40. Hes an old guy who appreciates traditional roles, in particular, the

    woman being a homemaker and the man being the breadwinner.

    Jen: So I take it, no wedding bells in the near future?

    Kayla: More like no wedding bells ever! In fact, never in my life have I considered marriage.

    Jen: Thats pretty extreme. So why even date?

    Kayla: In case you didn't know, there is a huge difference between dating and marriage. I happen to

    prefer the former.

    Expression / Technique Master Note

    -all you have to do is: ~ . *This is a good expression to use to emphasize your point. From a wide range of choices you are putting

    emphasis on the one choice.

    *Making friends is very difficult but all you have to do is to talk to them first.

    -tie the knot with ~: Ex) When are you going to tie the knot with Kerry?

    -is that all you think of marriage?: the use of pause in between the sentence or words can be a good

    way to highlight your point

    *the use of quotation marks is also a good method to lay emphasis on your point

    -trade in:

    -modern type: You can use this when you describe a type of person who is not very conservative or not

    following conservative values but accepting more of modern values and trends.

    -pushing 40: *pushing + age means someone is getting very close to the age you mention.

    Ex) Im pushing 30 so I really need to figure out what I want to do for the rest of my life.

    -in particular: , *You can use this expression when you narrowing down the general idea of something to the specific

    terms of it. It is a good way to underline little detailed information of the general idea.

    *You can also use never in million years.

    -go on a date: just meeting casually before considering becoming a couple

    **SUMMARY: There are many methods to call attention to the listeners. Putting emphasis on a word or

    phrase can be good ways of letting the listener know that you are trying to point out something strong.

    You can also use pauses in between the sentences to gain similar effects.
