Who Is A Leader?Definition

A leader is some one who guides, control and inspires the behavior of his or her subordinates in a positive way.

Leadership is the art of motivating a group of people to act towards achieving a common goal.

• Leadership is the inspiration and direction of the action.

• He or she is the person in the group that posses the combination of both personality ( personality traits) and skills.

• These both personality and skills makes other wants to follow his or her direction.

What Means To Leadership Style

• Leadership Style means the ways / method through which he or she influence his or subordinates / followers.

• Her the way that he is use represent a style for that leader.

Basic Leadership Styles

Autocratic Leadership Style: Autocratic leaders take authority and go headfirst in solving problems. They

like freedom to manage themselves and others.

Democratic (Participative) Leadership Style: These leaders encourage group members to participate, but retain the final

say over the decision-making process. Group members feel engaged in the process and are more motivated and creative.

Free Rein leadership style: Minimal control by the leader and maximum flexibility for the

team members. As such, the team leader often takes a back seat role and functions to coordinate and direct the actions of the team.

Situational Leadership Theory

• It is a theory of leadership that explain which style a leader choose. Actually this style choosing depend upon two situation of group member, that is their;

• No.1 Level of willingness.• No.2 Level of ability.

No.1 Level of Willingness: The willingness of group relates to the

confidence ,commitment and motivating to accomplish a particular task.

No.1 Level of Ability: It means the group knowledge ,skills and

experience to accomplish a particular task.

• Situational Leadership Theory explain that a (appropriate) style depends on the combination f both willingness and ability in a group.

• The key for leadership style effectiveness accordance this theory is depends upon the situation with appropriate style.

Leadership Style No.1The directive style

Situation : Group member are –unwilling and unable. Under such situation the appropriate style is directive

style. The leader who is directive ( similar to task

motivated) emphasis on formal activities , such as planning ,organizing and controlling. When the task is unclear the directive style improve mral.s

Leadership Style No.2The supportive style

Situation : Group member are – willing and unable.

Under such situation the appropriate leadership style will be supportive.

The leader who is supportive ( similar to relationship motivated) displays concern for group members. Well being and creates an emotionally supportive climate. He or she enhances moral when group member work on dissatisfying, sterns full or frurtating tasks.

Group member who are unaware of themselves prefer the supportive leadership style.

Leadership Style No.3The participative style

Situation : Group member are –unwilling but able. For such situation the appropriate leader ship style is

participative. A leader who is participative consults with group

member to gather their suggestions and member to gather their suggestion seriously when making decision.

The participative leader is best suited for improving the moral of will-motivated employees who perform non repetative tasks.

Leadership Style No.4Achievement-oriented style

Situation: Group member are willing and able. Under such situation a leader will choose this

style. The leader who is achievement oriented sets

challenging goals, pushes for work improvement and sets high expectation for team members.

group member are also expected to assume responsibility.

A Point To Be Note

A leader some time successfully combine more than ne of the four style. The accompanying leader in action vignette illustrates a manager who generally sues a participative style with group members ,yet in quiet directive in making some business decision.

Choosing a useful situational Leadership style

A we know that different situation requires different leadership style. The most useful one leadership style will be that one which has been adopted accordance to situation.

If the situation change then adopted one leadership style should be requires to change until it becomes appropriate to the situation.
