Your class is in charge of finding two quality speakers to participate in your school’s “Career Day” next month. To find speakers, your class decided to put an ad in the local newspaper. Go on...
Know Your Audience
What a response! Twenty people are interested in participating in “Career Day.”
Now, your class must decide which of the applicants will best fill the two available slots.

Your class decides to ask each of the applicants to write a short paragraph describing their skills and talents. Four semi-finalists have been chosen by your teacher.

Now your class must work as a group to read the four paragraphs and decide which two applicants should present at “Career Day.”

1. On the chalkboard, brainstorm a list of qualities that good guest speakers should have. (For example, you might think that being interesting is very important.)
2. Vote as a class on the 2 most important qualities on your list. Jot these qualities in your journal.
End of Day 1

considered for your school’s “Career Day”. I am a fire fighter. In addition to fighting fires, I regularly visit schools and businesses to talk about the importance of using smoke detectors in homes and other buildings.
