Dear Parents, Staff and Students,
Yesterday we thanked our amazing band of volunteers at a special morning tea. Throughout the year they have given their time and energy in support of a range of activities including the Classroom Helpers, special events, excursions, camps and weekly Student Banking. I am sure you join us in thanking them for the great work they do for your children and the school community.
We would also like to thank members of School Council and PTA for the commitment they have shown to providing our students and staff with a teaching and learning environment which strives to ‘Build the Foundations for Success and Happiness. We look forward to 2018 when we will open our new Performing Arts Space and Administration area.
Thanks also to our wonderful band of Casual Relief Teachers (CRT’s) for their contribution to our teaching and learning programs throughout the year.
Congratulations to our Choir for a wonderful performance at
the Sunbury Christmas Carols on the Village Green. Thank
you to families who supported our talented singers on the
night.
At our Year 6 Graduation evening on Wednesday 20th
December we will celebrate the achievements of our Year 6
students and wish them well as they move on to the next
stage of their learning at Secondary School.
Congratulations to students whose efforts are to be
acknowledged through a number of awards. A list of
recipients will be included in next week’s special edition
newsletter. Most importantly we congratulate and thank our
Year 6 students for the manner in which they have applied
themselves to achieving their personal best and for sharing
their learning journey with us. We look forward to hearing
of your progress through Secondary School and beyond!
Next Friday we will say farewell to a number of families
who have completed their time with us at Kismet Park. We
thank them for their contribution to our community and wish
them all the best for the future.
Tomorrow afternoon students will take home their End of Year Report and Learning Portfolio. Parents are invited to provide feedback about their child’s learning on the accompanying feedback form which can be returned to their class teacher next week. Your feedback will be passed on to their 2018 classroom teacher as part of our transition
process.
Next Thursday, 21st December, a special newsletter including our full staffing structure will be sent home along with 2018 class placement letters.
Teachers have worked tirelessly to place students in clas-ses for 2018. As explained in an earlier newsletter, students are placed according to their academic needs with an empha-sis on developing positive relationships with others. An im-portant skill is for students to learn how to get along with others in a range of group settings.
Please support your child by keeping a positive perspective to enable him or her to grow as a person capable of developing new friendships and resilience.
Kismet Park Primary School is committed to child safety. As a community we want children to be safe, happy and empow-ered. Copies of our Child safe policies and procedures are available on our school website at: http://www.kismetparkps.vic.edu.au Please remember if you have any concerns about the welfare of any child you should speak with our Child Safety Officer Cynthia Schumann.

Message from the Premier
The 2017 Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge
This year we celebrated the 13th year of the annual
Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge.
As the patron, and on behalf of former Premiers John Cain, Jeff Ken-nett, Steve Bracks, John Brumby, Ted Baillieu and Denis Napthine, I congratulate all Victorian children and students who participated in this year’s Challenge.
I am delighted to see that it continues to be such a popular pro-gram, with more than 242,362 school students and 8,041 children in early childhood taking up the Challenge.
Together, they read over 4 million books – a huge accomplishment. But more than that, they went on amazing adventures, discovered new lands and broadened their horizons.
We know that reading plays an important role in a child’s develop-ment. By encouraging our kids to love reading, we’re helping to set them on a path for success in learning, and in life.
I would like to extend my thanks to the participants, but also to the teachers, principals, early childhood educators, parents, carers and grandparents for their ongoing support of the Challenge.
The Hon Daniel Andrews MP
Well Done to the students who completed the Reading Challenge this year. Certificates will be going home shortly. Congratulations and Great reading Kismet Park!
