Specifications
Motor Overload ProtectionThis servo drive uses solid-state motor overload protection that operates in accordance with UL 61800-5-1. Motor overload protection is provided by algorithms that estimate actual motor temperature that is based on operating conditions. In addition, this drive provides an input for an external temperature sensor/thermistor device, which is embedded in the motor, to support the UL requirement for motor overload protection. Specifically, the Kinetix VP motors perform motor temperature monitoring to support the UL requirement for motor overload protection.
Some motors supported by this drive (firmware revision 3.001 or earlier) do not contain temperature sensors/thermistors; therefore, motor overload protection against excessive consecutive motor overloads with power cycling is not supported. Beginning with firmware revision 4.001 (and later) thermal retention is supported regardless of the motor or encoder type in use.
This servo drive meets the following UL 61800-5-1 requirements for solid-state overload protection.
Refer to your servo drive user manual for the interconnect diagram that illustrates the wiring between your motor and drive.

ATTENTION: Identifies information about practices or circumstances that can lead to personal injury or death, property damage, or economic loss. Attentions help you identify a hazard, avoid a hazard, and recognize the consequences.
ATTENTION: Only qualified personnel familiar with servo drives and associated machinery should plan or implement the installation, startup, and subsequent maintenance of the system. Failure to comply can result in personal injury and/or equipment damage.
SHOCK HAZARD: Labels may be on or inside the equipment (for example, drive or motor) to alert people that dangerous voltage may be present.
ATTENTION: An incorrectly applied or installed drive can result in component damage or a reduction in product life. Wiring or application errors such as undersizing the motor, incorrect or inadequate AC supply, or excessive surrounding air temperatures can result in malfunction of the system.
IMPORTANT Identifies information that is critical for successful application and understanding of the product.ATTENTION: Drive must not be installed in an area where the ambient atmosphere contains volatile or corrosive gas, vapors, or dust. If the drive is not going to be installed for a period of time, it must be stored in an area where it will not be exposed to a corrosive atmosphere.

Branch circuit short circuit protection Integral solid-state short circuit protection does not provide branch circuit protection. Branch circuit protection must be provided in accordance with the National Electric Code (NEC) and any additional local codes.
Leakage current
Kinetix 5700 drives produce leakage current in the protective-earthing conductor that exceeds 3.5 mA AC and/or 10 mA DC. The minimum size of the protective-earthing (grounding) conductor used in the application must comply with local safety regulations for high protective-earthing conductor current equipment.
Kinetix 5700 drives produce DC current in the protective-earthing conductor and can reduce the ability of a residual current device (RCD) or residual current monitor (RCM) of type A or AC to provide protection for the drive and other equipment in the installation.
Motor Overload Protection Trip Point Value
Ultimately 100% overload
Within 8 minutes 200% overload
Within 20 seconds 600% overload
ATTENTION: To avoid damage to your motor due to overheating caused by excessive, successive motor-overload trips, follow the wiring diagram that is provided in the user manual for your motor and drive combination.

Kinetix 5700 Dual-axis Inverters 3
Ground Screw InstallationIncluded with the drive module connector set is a ground screw. Install the ground screw for grounded (wye) power configurations. Do not install the ground screw when using ungrounded, corner-grounded, or impedance-grounded power, the Bulletin 8720MC regenerative power supply, or any active converter.
We recommend that you install the ground screw when the drive is removed from the panel and placed on its side on a solid surface equipped as a grounded static-safe workstation.
To access the ground screw on dual-axis inverters, open the small plastic door on the right side of the module.
Install the Ground Screw
Ground Screw Configurations
Mount the Dual-axis InverterObserve these clearance requirements when mounting the dual-axis inverter: Additional clearance is required for cables and wires or the shared-bus connection system connected to the
top of the drive. Additional clearance is required if other devices are installed above and/or below the drive and have
clearance requirements of their own. Additional clearance left and right of the drive is required when mounted adjacent to noise sensitive
equipment or clean wire ways. The recommended minimum cabinet depth is 300 mm (11.81 in.).Refer to the Kinetix Servo Drives Technical Data, publication KNX-TD003, for Kinetix 5700 drive dimensions.
The Kinetix 5700 drive system must be spaced by aligning the zero-stack tab and cutout. For hole patterns, refer to the Kinetix 5700 Servo Drives User Manual, publication 2198-UM002.
Mount the Kinetix 5700 servo drives to the cabinet subpanel with M5 (#10-32) steel bolts torqued to 4.0 Nm (35.4 lbin), max.
Minimum Clearance Requirements
Connector DataUse this illustration to identify the dual-axis inverter features and indicators.
Dual-axis Inverters Features and Indicators (2198-D006-ERSx inverter is shown)
IMPORTANT If you have grounded-wye power distribution and 2198-Pxxx DC-bus power supply, install the ground screw. EMC performance can be affected if the ground screw is not installed.
ATTENTION: When the ground screw is not installed, the risk of equipment damage exists because the unit no longer maintains line-to-neutral voltage protection.
ATTENTION: To avoid personal injury, the ground screw access door must be kept closed when power is applied. If power is applied, and then removed, wait at least 5 minutes for the DC-bus voltage to dissipate, and verify that no DC-bus voltage exists before accessing the ground screw.
ATTENTION: Risk of equipment damage exists. The drive ground configuration must be accurately determined. Install the ground screw for grounded power configurations. Do not install the screw for ungrounded, corner-grounded, and impedance-grounded power, or when an active converter supplies the DC-bus voltage.
Ground Configuration (1)
(1) Refer to the Kinetix 5700 Servo Drives User Manual, publication 2198-UM002, for example power configurations.
Ground Screw Configuration Benefits of Configuration
Grounded (wye) Installed
UL and EMC compliance Reduced electrical noise Most stable operation Reduced voltage stress on
components and motor bearings
AC-fed ungrounded Corner grounded Impedance grounded Not installed (default setting)
Helps avoid severe equipment damage when ground fault occurs
Reduced leakage currentDC-bus from active converter
Install the ground screw for grounded powerconfigurations. Do not install the ground screw for
ungrounded, corner-grounded, and impedance-grounded power or grounded systems with active power supplies
(screw not installed is the default setting).

Wiring Requirements
Shield Clamp InstallationFactory-supplied 2090-Series single motor cables are shielded and the braided cable shield must terminate at the drive during installation. The exposed area must be clamped (with the clamp provided) at the bottom front of the drive. Clamp spacers, included with the dual-axis inverters and held captive by rivets, are not needed for Kinetix VP motor installations, and can be removed.

Just In Time (JIT) or Off Set (OS)?
Use these guidelines to determine if your publication should be JIT (just in time/print on demand) or if it would be more economical to print OS (offset/on a press). OS print jobs require an RFQ (Request For Quote) in US. If your job fits into the Either category, an RFQ is recommended, but not required. In the US, RA Strategic Sourcing will discourage or reject RFQs for jobs that fall within the JIT category. Guidelines differ for black & white and color printing, so be sure to check the correct tables.
