Students will feel ready for Kindergarten if…

• You help make it a habit to share reading and discussion times every day.

• He/she can listen to a whole story before discussing (talk at the end).

• He/she can follow 2-3 step directions from memory.• He/she can recognize his/her name written with a

capital letter at the beginning and the rest lower case letters.

• He/she can concentrate on one activity for ten minutes or longer. (Videos do not count).

How parents can help…• Send your child in appropriate prescribed

clothing and shoes that allow movement and comfort throughout the day. (No flip flops allowed!)

• Help him/her with double tying of shoes, zippers, etc. (Snaps may be too hard for little fingers.)

• Help your child to be comfortable and completely independent with the toileting process.

• Demonstrate and practice being a successful and tidy nose blower.

Establish school routines…

Before the first day of school…• Set a routine of getting to bed early• Get up early enough to dress, groom, and eat

a healthy breakfast without rushing.• Consider a no TV rule in the morning.

At the end of the day…• Check backpack for work to admire &

discuss.• Look for notices from school.• Ask about his/her day and listen…

Morning Class Responsibilities Empty backpacks at table independently. Collect snacks. Put water bottles & snacks in basket. Conduct lunch count, place lunchboxes in basket to go to cafeteria. Put library books in basket. Take out completed homework to be reviewed . Zip backpacks & put away backpacks in cubbies.

Parent Volunteers are welcome…

By October, routines are set and parents are asked to help in a variety of ways….

• Classroom Help • Field Trip chaperones • Cutting, stapling, sorting, etc.• PTO volunteers

At home helpers are great, too!

Backpacks…• Daily folders and backpacks need to

come to school every day!• Make sure the backpack can easily hold a

big picture book and standard-sized binder.• School backpacks should be used for school

things only and not used to store work or carry toys.

• Backpacks that are carried on the back vs. pulled wheelies are best.

3 B’s of Good Behavior…

•Be safe. •Be respectful.•Be responsible.

Eating at School• Our cafeteria offers both breakfast and lunch. Breakfast

is served starting at 7:45 a.m. each morning. • Each student automatically has a cafeteria account and

their name is used to access the account. You can put money in the account daily, weekly, or monthly. The cafeteria will let you know if your account is getting low by giving the child a hand stamp.

• We also have a new program called www.mylunchmoney.com. This a great tool to use to check on your child’s account. You can see how much money you have left and make electronic payments to the account. You can also set it up to do direct deposit or to send you an e-mail when the account is getting low.

Break and Snack Time • Children may choose to bring an individual

healthy snack to eat during our break time.• Please label with your child’s name.• No juice or sugared drinks for snack, please.• Water bottles may be brought for use

throughout the day. (We also have a drinking fountain in the classroom and on the playground.)

• We will have a simple snack option available for kids during the first week of school only.

Comments from the front office…

• Remember to keep all your phone numbers current in the front office. If we have to call you for any reason throughout the day and the phone numbers we have on file are not current, it makes it difficult for us to get in touch with you. Your child may need you.

• Please contact us on the attendance line if your child will be missing school for any reason. Your child’s safety is our primary concern.

** If we do not hear from you, your child will be marked truant.

Playground Changes…• Parents are welcome to

accompany their children to the playground for the first day of school. However, prepare to send your little one off with his/her class into the building with a hug and a smile when the bell rings.

• Beginning August 6th, Staff will supervise students only in the playground areas before school. Staff will be better able to reinforce rules, view the play areas, and keep all kids safe.

Emergency Card Information

• Please list current daytime numbers and cell phones.• Indicate a person other than yourself that is available

to pick up your child (make sure they know they’ve been added and they are locally available).

• Notify us of any changes at any time throughout the year.

• Write/print clearly.• If you will be out of town please make sure that the

person the student is staying with is listed on the emergency card.

Medication• Can only be brought to school by an

adult.• Pharmacy label is required.• Yellow medication card must be
