Kids at Hop

Kids at Hope• Kids at Hope began as a small research project at Arizona State University in

1993. A group of researchers and practitioners came together to better understand why some students do well and others struggle.

• After a seven year review (1993-2000) three major findings were revealed. These findings were translated into a cultural framework in support of the success of all students, No Exceptions!

• Over the next 14 years (2000-1014) Kids at Hope models have been established in 18 states and Canada.

• Nine separate independent university led evaluations have validated Kids at Hope principles and practices as powerful strategies designed to support the success of all students, No Exceptions!

Kids at Hope

• Kids at Hope does not add anything more to your plate, what it does is offer you a stronger plate where everything else on your plate makes a lot more sense.

• Kids at Hope provides the HOPE to all that we do on behalf of all children and ourselves.

• HOPE is a science. It can be taught and learned.

Major Research Conclusions

We don’t control most of the risk children experience, but we do control most of the hope

Even the youth who is most at risk there still is a side of the young person who is at hope

Young people who overcome the greatest adversities, the greatest risks do so – not just when we reduce, mitigate or eliminate risk , but when we include HOPE in their lives

• Children/youth succeed when they are surrounded by adults who believe they can succeed, NO EXCEPTIONS!

Unless you truly believe that all children and youth are capable of success, No Exceptions-Unless you are a “10” your effectiveness will be dramatically diminished.

• Children/youth succeed when they have meaningful and sustainable relationships with caring adults

Conclusion:

Programs alone don’t make a difference-Adult Relationships do.

Universal Truth # III

•Children/youth succeed when they can articulate their future in more than one destination:

Being able to visualize a future is “mental time travel” and that creates hope.
