Who you will learn?

The purpose of this presentation is to introduce Solid Edge for SharePoint as a simple Solid Edge data management solution

We will cover …..

• Common data management challenges• What is Solid Edge for SharePoint (SESP)• Designing products in SESP• Visualising data• Change management & Workflow• Searching and reusing data• Start to finish design change demo

COMMON DATA MANAGEMENT CHALLENGES

Where did I put that File? If I can’t find it I’ll have to do

the design again.

Is this the latest revision of our product?

I’m sure I changed that part earlier.

I opened up a Solid Edge Assembly,

Where are all the parts?

Who else is working on this design?

I’m about to make some changes,

Where else is this part used?

My Engineering Change Process has stalled and I don’t know

who I’m waiting for.

Our Design Team don’t have an effective way to share BOM’s

with Purchasing.

We have designers all around the UK/World. How can we

share Solid Edge data when the files are so big?

SOLID EDGE FOR SHAREPOINT

§ SharePoint App for Solid Edge users who are finding that as the volume of their data grows, using Windows Explorer becomes far too inefficient

§ Easy visual management of CAD files and related documents§ Built on 10 years of technical leadership in SharePoint based CAD

management (Insight)

BUILT ON SHAREPOINT

§ Familiar Microsoft Look & Feel– Quick to Learn / Easy to Use– Unobtrusive – Similar Look to Windows explorer

§ Fully integrated within Solid Edge– Work the same as you always have– Don’t even have to leave SE

§ Automatic part numbering§ Automatic where used§ Automatic PDF & JT creation§ Automatic Check in / Check out

SECURE / STRUCTURED DATA MANAGEMENT

§ Centrally Secures & Protects Your Intellectual Property– User & Group Access control for design data

§ Multi-revision, multi-file data model§ Each part revision is a collection of

closely related files– CAD model– 2D drawing– JT file for visualisation– PDF file of 2D drawing– STEP / IGES for import / export– Office documents for specs and reports

DESIGNING IN SESP

§ Creating and managing Solid Edge data is easy– Through Solid Edge– Through web interface

§ Auto Part and Revision numbering§ Mandatory properties§ Managed template files§ Valuable feedback in PathFinder

– Indication of who has files checked out– Files that have updates

VISUALISING DATA

§ Visual approach to managing complex data§ Status card for preview graphics§ Content browser and relation browser display

– Assembly / sub assembly and part links– Drawing to assembly or part links– Part to part associative links– Specification documents (Word / PDF) to part links– Project / ECR / ECO links

CHANGE MANAGEMENT

§ Engineering Change Request (ECR), Engineering Change Order (ECO) management provided out of the box– Ability to link relevant materials under an ECR container.

Documentation, models, 3D Markups, Projects etc– Roll several ECR’s into an ECO– Workflows available to apply life cycle status

PROJECTS

§ Projects are special containers / objects– Collect multiple related changes together

• Embedded documents• Links to related objects

– Project specific properties– Has lifecycle status

WORKFLOW & RELEASING DATA

§ Solid Edge SP provides pre configured workflows– Quick Release– Quick Assembly Release– 2-Step Release– 2-Step Assembly Release– Quick Obsolete

§ Streamline & enforce company processes§ Ensure compliance

– ISO Traceability

§ Flexible and fully configurable

SEARCH & RE-USE

§ Fast & Powerful Search Capabilities– Promotes design re-use to lower

Engineering and manufacturing costs

§ Search in Solid Edge or the Web client§ Save Favorite Searches

§ Quick ‘where used’ searches– Automatic where necessary– Easy to see the impact of change

LETS TAKE A LOOK

§ Change required to an existing released design– Use ECR / ECO to document the change required– Ensure all relevant information is

readily available– Searching– Revisions– Implementing the design change

in Solid Edge– Product release

SUMMARY

§ Built on proven technology§ Unobtrusive to Solid Edge users§ Automatic part numbering§ Configurable workflows

– Release, ECR / ECO

§ Fast searching§ Automated where used searches§ Visualise product structure and impact of change§ Easy access to design data for non Solid Edge users
