Disclaimer

• My personal views– Not widely discussed in GridPP– No formal Policy

• but this is my area of responsibility in PMB

UK

• As Ian Bird said in previous talk, LCG1 will be deployed at 10 Tier1s– plus token Tier2

• Tier2s will be added through support by Tier1s– Second level support from Team LCG

• So Tier1s won’t want to increase their support load until they are happy that their own deployment is reasonably stable.– Double number of sites by end of 2003?– Implies 1 Tier2 per Tier1– UK will offer more

UK Tier1

• Already in LCG0• Ready for LCG1• Developing Operations Centre• LCG Security Coordinator

• Resources there for LHC will be deployed for LCG if experiments wish– Existing resources already fully committed until end of

2003 for• CMS DC04 simulation• Atlas DC03(?)

– Hardware upgrade by end of year.

UK Testbeds

• Several existing UK testbeds– EDG

• Application and development

– BaBarGrid

– SAMGrid

– QCDGrid

• IC Resource Broker• GridPP VO Server• TB-Support

– Team, meetings, mailing lists

EDG Applications Testbed

• Almost all coloured sites have belonged to EDG Application Testbed at some time.

• Almost all waiting to migrate to EDG TB2.0

• Should happen over summer before LCG1 will be ready for them

UK Tier2 Centres

• Four Virtual Tier2 Centres

• What is a virtual Tier2?– Management domain– Shared commitments– Sign up jointly to SLAs– Common Support– Seamless when technology allows– A federated Grid

• All will join LCG1 some time

Joining LCG1

• So, how will we join LCG1?• Determined by

– LCG Team – do they want us all at once?

– Tier1 support (TB Support?) What support will there be?

– Tier2s – do they want to order sites? Or have a guineapig?

– Sites – they have the hardware resources, do they have the effort?

• All sites should consider if they wish to join in 2003 or remain in EDG apptb, or both.

Unknowns

• Site Certification– How do we prove that a site is ready to

connect?

• Can an LCG1 resource be shared with non-LCG use?– In theory yes, but in practise?

John Gordon

Preparations

• Security and registration– Procedures defined

• Site information gathering– Contacts etc, prior to joining

• Join TB2.0 to gain familiarity with middleware

• Migrate to LCFGng
