In the midst of this love and obsession for social

networking sites, mankind is left seeing, wondering, and

trying to discover the answer to the following question:

what affects are these sites having on society, both in a

positive and negative light?

Expectations

• In what ways have social networking sites impacted society?

• What does the future hold for social networking sites?

Dating Days of pebble throwing are gone! Replaced by social

networking and all that it allows: Messaging Instant messaging Wall posts Status updates Etc. E-mail is too slow!

Music Traditional relationship

between bands and fans is quickly fading

MySpace did what Friendster did not allow

Created fun and easy ways to follow music!

Strong/Weak Ties Historically, strong ties

prevailed and shaped communities

Huge increase in weak ties since social networking sites

Change in culture

Negatives

• Dangerous Contacts

• Online Bullying

• Privacy Invasion

In the Future… Social networking sites

are showing no signs of slowing down.

I think that we will continue to allow them to become increasingly involved in our lives.
