RCMJD FRIENDS
The RCMJD Friends make a great contribution to the life of the RCM Junior Department.
Their support enables the Junior Department to undertake various financial outlays that
would not otherwise be possible. These include:
• the commissioning of new music from leading composers for JD ensembles to
perform
• the hiring of a major external venue for the JD Summer Term Symphony Orchestra
concert
• the purchase of new instruments, cases, equipment, and the restoration of those in
need of repair
• the purchase of sheet music for our choirs and orchestras.
Becoming an RCMJD Friend is an ideal way to support us in providing this unique musical
experience for so many talented youngsters. Friends enjoy a great range of benefits and
also have the opportunity to join the Friends Committee who provide more hands-on
support.
Membership costs just £15 per year and additional donations are always welcome.
For further information or to join the RCMJD Friends, please email jdfriends@rcm.ac.uk.
The Friends of the Royal College of Music Junior Department is an independent charity and is UK Registered Charity

VISIT DAYS AND AUDITIONS
VISIT DAYS We hold four Visit Days during the Autumn and Spring terms for prospective students and
their parents to come and see the Department in action. Visitors will be able to observe
orchestral and chamber music rehearsals, be shown round by current JD parents and have
a chance to ask questions of members of staff including the Head of Junior Programmes,
Miranda Francis. Dates will be published on our website (www.rcm.ac.uk/junior/
aboutrcmjd/visitingthercm) by the end of September and places need to be booked in
advance. Please see the website for details of how to book.
APPLICATION PROCESS We will be accepting online applications for places starting in September 2017 from
January 2017. Full details of the process are available from our website. If you would like
an email reminder when full details are available, please email jd@rcm.ac.uk. The closing
date for applications will be 1 March 2017.
AUDITIONS Auditions will be held during February, March and April 2017. Most applicants will only
be required to attend one audition, however as we usually have large numbers of violin
and piano applications, these applicants may be required to pass two rounds of auditions.
Dates for all auditions will be published on our website in January.
LATE APPLICATIONS If you would like to submit an application after the closing date but before our auditions
start, please contact the JD office (via jd@rcm.ac.uk) before sending your application.
Late application enquiries received after the main audition session are dealt with on a case-
by-case basis and we are only able to offer late auditions if there are appropriate spaces
still available.
