FROM THE
EDITOR’S DESK
The month of January comes
with a back-to-work nostalgia
for almost everyone at school
since internals, practicals and
exams are just a few weeks
away. Students come back af-
ter a restful Christmas pumped
up to make the next year their
happiest one. There is an unu-
sual energy all over the school
campus because every mind is
resolute about their goals and
targets in the ultimate quarter
of the year. We certainly have
‘a look’ to look back and smile
at, but at the same time some-
thing very essential is
approaching towards us in full
speed.
The echo team wishes good
luck to the 10th and 12th
standard students for their pre-
lims and final exam prepara-
tions.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Green Day Well, all of you must have obviously heard about Green Day and if
not, maybe the song “Boulevard of Broken Dreams” might sound
somewhat familiar.
Green Day is an American punk rock band formed in 1986 by lead
vocalist and guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong and bassist Mike Dirnt.
For much of the group's career, the band has been a trio with drum-
mer Tré Cool, who replaced former drummer John Kiffmeyer in
1990.
Billie Joe Armstrong, the lead vocalist, primary songwriter, and
guitarist was raised in Rodeo, California. Armstrong developed an
interest in music at a young age, and recorded his first song at the
age of five. He met Mike Dirnt while attending elementary school
and the two instantly bonded over their mutual interest in music,
forming the band Sweet Children when the two were 15 years old.
The band changed its name to Green Day, and later achieved mas-
sive commercial success.
The American punk rock band Green Day has released 12 studio
albums, two live albums, four compilation albums, one soundtrack
album, four video albums, 10 extended plays, four box sets,
40 singles, ten promotional singles, and 39 music videos. The band
has sold over 75 million albums worldwide, including more than 23
million in the United States alone.
Their seventh studio album “American Idiot” reignited the band's
popularity with a younger generation. Becoming the band's first
album to top the Billboard 200, American Idiot sold over six mil-
lion copies in the United States and over 14 million copies world-
wide. The album spawned five commercially successful singles:
"American Idiot", "Boulevard of Broken Dreams", "Holiday",
"Wake Me Up When September Ends", and "Jesus of Suburbia".
Green Day has recently (October 2016) released their 12th studio
album “Revolution Radio” which gained widespread popularity and
topped the Billboard 200 charts.
Green Day is still going hard making their music and is rising
above names like Linkin Park, Blink-182, Sum 41 and All Time
Low.

Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike In the opening moments of the annual ‘Bringing The Madness’ show, which saw the brothers return to their home turf of Antwerp, Belgium for a spectacle-filled headline arena, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike are shown striding dramatically towards the stage in slow motion. As the arena is bombarded with flashing lights, and one of their unreleased jams ‘Action’ rings out over the speakers, the record’s drop is greeted with the requisite fireworks explosion. With older brother Dimitri settling in behind the decks, it isn’t long before hype-man Mike is reaching out with two mics in his hand, pumping up the crowd. Dimitri Thivaios and Michael Thivaios are a Belgian DJ and record producer duo, who get the hype more for their amazing sets than their songs. They first came into the scene in 2010, when they performed for the first time at To-morrowland and made their first anthem. Their first hit was “Ocarina”, the Tomorrowland 2013 anthem, released by their own label “Smash the House”, which hit no. 1 on Beatport in less than 3 days. In 2014, their single 'Tremor' – a collabora-tion with Martin Garrix saw busting Charts and became a huge sensation at Tomorrowland, Ultra Music Festival, etc. 2015 saw the duo's release of their most highly anticipated track "The Hum" produced with Ummet Ozcan which was an instant hit and topped the Beatport Charts, and their deep house collaboration with Ne Yo – “Higher Place”, making them the no.1 DJ’s on DJ MAG. But it’s not the songs that have made them huge, it’s their live performances. The 2015 'Bringing The Madness 3.0' Concert saw an enor-mous sellout of 40,000 tickets in under 40 minutes – a feat previously seen only from the likes of iconic artists U2, Madonna, Coldplay and Beyoncé – encouraging the brothers to add an additional 3rd date to the run of shows and increase the total ticket volume for the opening weekend to an eye-popping 60,000 capacity. Their Tomorrowland sets on YouTube have more than 40 mil-lion views, which they say is their biggest pillar of success. Their sets are all about connecting with the crowd, creating moshpits, causing earthquakes, making the crowd go crazy. Riding high at the top of the pile, party-rockers Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike are going to continue smashing the house for a long time to come.

Marshmello
Marshmello is one of the known and rising names in the EDM community. He got international recognition in
2015 when he released his remixes of songs like Zedd’s “Beautiful Now” and later released his most success-
ful song “Alone”. Inspired from Deadmau5 and Daft Punk, he always appears wearing a marshmallow helmet
completely covering his head.
He started his career after posting his first song “WaVeZ” on Soundcloud and is steadily gaining popularity. He
currently is ranked 28th on DJ Mag. His musical style includes groove-oriented, synth and bass-heavy electron-
ic dance music. Marshmello performed for the first time in India on 8th October 2016 in Hyderabad and was a
huge success. Despite being so popular, nobody knows his true identity but some people suggest that he may be
American DJ Chris Comstock popularly known as Dotcom.

Evolution of Rock: Linkin Park
Rock has been the greatest genre since the time of Queen
Elizabeth, irrespective of the influence of EDM and country
music. It has touched every person’s soul by its overwhelm-
ing music and impressive vocals. It has also united some
communities through music. The story of one such magnifi-
cent rock band, Linkin Park, began in 1999 with the release
of its first official album “Hybrid Theory”. Linkin Park are
considered as the best Alternative Rock band apart from
Green Day and Coldplay. Though it won only one Grammy
in 2003 for their song “Numb Encore ft. JayZ”, the band
has bagged the American Music Award consecutively for
three years for “Best Rock Song” in 2001 for “Crawling”,
in 2002 for “Leave out all the Rest” and in 2003 for
“Numb”. They’ve been at their best from 2003-2013, sell-
ing millions of copies around the world. In 2012, they re-
leased the album “Living Things” which got a good re-
sponse. The songs “Castle of Glass” and “Lost in the Echo”
were the most popular songs from this album, which ac-
cording to me, everyone can hear to get the feel of alterna-
tive rock music at its finest. Their latest album “The Hunt-
ing Party” was released on the 13 June 2014. The block-
busters from this album are “Guilty All the Same ft. Rakm”,
“Final Masquerade”, “Until It’s Gone” and “All For Noth-
ing ft. Page Hamilton”. Their next album is rumored to be
released this winter and they have also claimed this album
to be the best there ever was. We are still eagerly waiting
for LP’s great music and amazing vocals in this album. In
conclusion, I believe that other genres of music including
rock have not been overpowered by the recent EDM craze.
They are good genres of music in their own right, and have
their own separate audiences and specialties.

Swedish House Mafia The years 2005-2015 may well be the golden era of the electronic music aka EDM the ball was rolling and everyone was riding
on. Producers were coming up with new genres every other day with mind-blowing tracks. This meant that new producers were
just waiting for their chance to have a piece of the cake. Among these were Axwell, Ingrosso and Steve Angello. The trio used to
do shows together with fellow Swedish DJ Eric Prydz. Soon friends and fans began labeling the four together as they played more
and more shows together. Eventually the group came together officially and SWEDISH HOUSE MAFIA was born. Prydz decided
against joining the group.
Their first production together was “Get Dumb” which came out in June 2007, but the first single that was produced as Swedish
House Mafia: “One” came out on May 2nd 2010 and my friends, the DROP was born. The “drop” changed the entire music experi-
ence…it got you on your feet waiting for that Bass to drop. Most of the songs that you hear today like ‘Closer’ by Chainsmokers,
‘Wake me up’ by Avicii, ‘Summer’ by Calvin Harris…are because of these three guys. So for all your favorite tracks, these are
the guys to thank.
But all good things come to an end and SHM was no exception, for, on the 3rd December 2012, the whole world was shocked
when they announced that they had decided to part ways… and on the 23rd March 2013 they performed for the last time, and the
LEGENDARY track “Don’t You Worry Child” featuring John Martin was released as the world wept.
So… “don’t you worry child, see heavens got a plan for you…”

MY SPECIAL WISH
You all must have got something in life
You really really miss,
And you might be ready to give away anything
For that one important wish !
For some it might be their old house
Or school, college and work,
For some it might families
But I belong to a different world!
So now its time I tell you what it is
So get ready to be shocked
It’s my previous class VII D
Which was amazing and it rocked!
I remember those gossips
Those laughs, screams and shouts
And of the fact that we were the best class,
there was absolutely no doubt !
Those music and library lessons
And how could I forget art?
And I know we all never forget each other
And remain in each others’ heart !
What else could I possibly say about that class ?
For words cant describe those bonds,
I can just say it was legendary
And our friendship was to the infinity & beyond !!
