PARENT BULLETIN
JETS
Debbie Glinowiecki, Principal
Nancy Aumiller, Assistant Principal
April 3, 2014
Dear Parents,
Today starts our annual online Parent Survey. You will be provided with a link to
go online and complete the survey. We ask you complete a separate survey for each
child you have at Jacksonville. Every child has been given a certificate to be filled in by
the parent once you have completed the survey. Upon returning the certificate to the
teacher, your child will be given a homework pass.
Site Base and PTA analyze the data provided by the survey. When a significant
difference in the percentage from last year’s survey is noted, the committees review any
positive changes or needed changes which are then implemented in the following school
year. Both groups sincerely appreciate your time and effort completing the survey.
There will be two openings on the Site Base committee for the upcoming school
year. If you are interested in being considered, please submit your name and why you
would like to be a part of the JES governance committee to the principal by April 28th
.
All letters will then be given anonymously to the PTA Executive Board, who will choose
the two new Site Base members.
As of today, we still have not heard a definitive last day of school. Dr. Dance is
requesting a waiver for some of the school days missed due to the weather. Once we hear
what the last day is, we will send out a connect ed message to all. Also the fifth grade
farewell will be on the second to the last day, as in the past.
The next two months will be “packed” with special events and happenings at
Jacksonville. We encourage you to refer to the calendar to see what is pending. Next
Focused on Quality Committed to Excellence
week we will be holding our Annual Science Fair on Tuesday, April 8, 6:00-7:00. The
fourth and fifth grade students have been working diligently on their projects following
the scientific method. The first place winner from each grade will represent JES at the
county-wide fair which will be held in May.
Report cards will be distributed on Thursday, April 10. Spring break begins at the
end of the school day on Friday, April 11 and school reopens Tuesday, April 22.
Belated congratulations to our Destination Imagination Team, Mitchell Burus,
Andrew Podles, Michael Schmidt, Ben Sharples, Rushil Vangara, and Katie Zhu, who
came in sixth place in the regional competition. This is the first year JES has participated.
Also congratulations to Kathy Yao who represented JES in the county wide Math 24
competition. Kathy earned the fourth highest score for girls (18 out of 78 total
participants)! Also a big thank you is extended to Mrs. Tracey Daniels, Mr. John Brown,
and Mr. Tim Hurley for sponsoring these competitions.
Also thank you to everyone who contributed to the Daniels and Clark families
who both suffered tragic fires within a month of each. They are very appreciative of
everything that has been done to help them during these times.
Happy spring!

Thank you……
Dear Jacksonville Staff and Families,
I just wanted to take a moment to offer my sincere thanks and gratitude for all of
the support you have provided to me and my family following our devastating house fire.
Although we lost pretty much everything, the encouragement and gifts we have received
have been a blessing that has helped to keep us on our feet. This support has assisted us
in carrying on with our everyday lives, providing as much normalcy as possible to my
four children. The money, gift cards, and notes have been amazing and I am very
fortunate to be a part of such an incredible and caring community. Thank you again for
everything!
Sincerely,
Tracey Daniels,
Special Educator

The Walter’s Art Museum 2014 Exhibit
Way to go Jacksonville student artists!
Six third-graders had their artwork displayed in the K-8 county wide exhibit
at The Walter's Art Museum Sunday March 16th: Allie Reed, Hailey
Greaves, Vinny Mendel, Dean Troy, Keegan Toomey, and Sarah Szalczyk.
The students and their families enjoyed seeing their watercolor paintings of
Rome and Venice hanging in this amazing museum.
And to make us even prouder, of all of the hundreds of artworks in the show
our Allie Reed’s painting of a bridge in Rome was the only one chosen to be
featured on the exhibit's display sign/poster .
Another great part of the show was that 5 Jacksonville alumni were also
selected to be exhibited for their middle schools: Mae Dickens, Haley
Murname, Claire Worthington, Emily Zhang, and Kaitlin Rowan.
Their hard work and talent really paid off!
Baltimore County Team BCPS
1st Place Winner from Jacksonville Elementary School
Congratulations to our student artist, Katie Zhu. She is the
1st Place Winner, elementary level, in our We Are Team
BCPS art contest. Baltimore County Board of Education will
issue a news release next week to announce the winners, and
they will present her with her $50 prize at the Board of
Education Meeting on Tuesday, May 6, at 7 p.m. in Building E, on
the Baltimore County Public Schools’ Greenwood campus, 6901 N. Charles
Street in Towson, 21204.
The judges at the county level want to congratulate Katie on a unique, richly
textured, and uplifting piece of artwork. We want to congratulate Katie on
her terrific effort and super art skills!
She makes us proud! Way to go Katie!
Dollars for Dogs!
The Dollars for Dogs annual campaign will run through the end of April which is
Disabilities Awareness Month at Jacksonville. Each student is asked to drop $1.00 in the
donation bottle in the lobby. Dollars will be totaled and donated to The Seeing Eye in
Morristown, N.J. The Seeing Eye trains puppies to become guide dogs and then matches
those puppies to a visually impaired owner. They work with the puppy and owner to
ensure a perfect match. Over the past four years JES students have donated more
than $1,000.00 to the Seeing Eye and have adopted four puppies! Make sure to check
out the photographs of our puppies in the showcase lobby!
Math24 Club
Congratulations to Kathy Yao who represented Jacksonville Elementary at the Math 24
Tournment. She finished 18th out of 78 total participants and 4th place of all female
participants. Way to go Kathy!

FROM THE PRESIDENTApril 1, 2014
Hello JES Families!
I hope this finds all of you well. What a winter we have had! Hard to believe its April 1 and we don’t even have cherry blossoms yet. Let’s all think warm Spring thoughts and maybe Spring will join us!
With Spring, we have many things to look forward to: Blood Drive, Teacher Appreciation Week, and Spring Carnival to name a few! These are all great opportunities to get involved and volunteer at JES. Please take a few moments to read about these opportunities in this newsletter.
Speaking of volunteering, our JES PTA Executive Board will be changing next year since most of us are facing our 2 year term limit. This is a great time to step up and take a leadership position. You do not have to have prior experience to join our board; simply let me know that you are interested in helping! In particular, we need someone willing to take on the role of Treasurer and so far, no one has jumped at the chance to be President. Can you believe it? It’s actually a fun job! It’s a great opportunity to work with wonderful people who pull off all kinds of amazing feats and love to help. It’s an awesome opportunity to give back to your community and learn a lot too. Why not consider a JESPTA leadership position? Email me if you are interested.
Thank you all for your generous donations to help the Clark family these last few weeks. With your help, JES donated more than $4000 and many household goods – once again a caring community effort to assist a family facing a very difficult time! The family has let me know how grateful they are to the community for the support and donations. Donations efforts are ongoing, so please don’t hesitate if you have household goods to give or want to donate $.
I’m looking forward to seeing so many of you at JES Day at Camden Yards on April 27– Go O’s! Thanks to Christina Michael for coordinating huge ticket sales for this event!
Happy Spring!
With kind regards,
