• Decibel : the decibel is commonly used in
acoustics to quantify sound levels relative to a 0 db reference.
• Measuring sound: Sound travels in waves. In solid building materials, it progresses has vibration
• Hertz : Sound frequency is measured in hertz, cycles per second.
• Noise reduction coefficient: NRC is most commonly used to rate general acoustical properties of acoustic ceiling tiles, baffles, banners, office screens and acoustic wall panels.
Noise criteria: NC is used to define design goals for the maximum allowable background noise in a given space.
• Absorption coefficient: The sound absorption coefficient describes the ability of a material to scatter or diffuse sound expressed as a fraction of incident sound.
