Personal Use of Electronics
Teachers Lori and Mike are
gracious enough to allow
our students the use of
personal electronic devic-
es, as long as they are
listening to music or looking
up something on the inter-
net relevant to their school
work. It is still prohibited to
be on social media
(Facebook, Instagram,
Snapchat, etc.) or texting or
making personal phone
calls, unless the teacher
approves. Use it, but let’s
not abuse it.
Kickstarting the New School Year at NU Tech
There is quite a bit happening in the first few
weeks here at NU Tech. We have had a
great selection of new and returning students
to school. There are only a few openings left!
And what a great group of motivated students
we have this year! Many are currently em-
ployed, some are volunteering at Cascades
Living and several are taking Career Tech-
nical Education classes at the NUHS campus.
Kimala DeSena is the new secretary here at
NU Tech. If your stu-
dent is absent, please
call Kimala or leave a
message at (530)273-
1248. No notes are
accepted, except from
a doctor or dentist to
approve an absence. Kimala is also the offi-
cial registrar for NU Tech and will be ensuring
that all transcripts are correctly noting grades/
credits for your student. If there is an error,
please call Kimala for any corrections.
Only two weeks into school and Senior Nolan
Thomas, has successfully completed his high
school requirements to graduate early. He, along
with others at NU Tech, will be able to participate
in the 2016/2017 graduation ceremonies at Neva-
da Union High School.
Michael Hughes is the new Principal at NU Tech
this year. Michael also oversees NorthPoint
Academy and NUHS Adult Education. Michael
can be reached at mhughes@njuhsd.com or

Students have their eye on the prize...
Many of our students were
looking for another way to be
successful in high school.
Some are ready to get their
careers started and high
school is a necessity they need
to hurdle before anything else.
Our teachers have many years
working with students in this
two classroom setting. They
understand the desires, but
more importantly, they recog-
nize key traits to be successful.
Here’s what they have to say:
Teacher Mike McLaughlin—
“Our students need to know
how to write and how to ex-
press themselves. They need
to know how to introduce
themselves to other people
and socialize. They need to
develop the desire to read.
They need a strong work ethic.
They need to learn how to op-
erate independently and be
civil with one another in life.”
Teacher Mike says: The best
part of my job is seeing suc-
cess happen quickly! I love
We asked Teacher Lori and
Teacher Mike what traits are
needed to be successful in the
NU Tech program?
NU Tech Students at WORK!
70% of our students are
actively employed or they
volunteer within the com-
munity. Students receive
10 credits for the Work

EYE ON IT Credits needed to graduate on time
Do you know how many credits
you need to date? How defi-
cient, if at all, are you? Did you
know that the NU Tech program
is designed to facilitate your
student in catching up with defi-
cient credits? They also have
the opportunity to graduate on
time or early, if really motivated.
Juniors have the option to catch
up and return to NUHS main
campus the following year.
Want to learn more about this?
Talk to one of our teachers and
Rose Murphy, your School
Counselor, and let’s get you
where you want to be!
Perfect Attendance
We are currently counting who
will achieve perfect attendance
for the month of September. Is
it you? Don’t miss any days
and let’s see what incentives
are in store for
those students who
are on the right path
to SUCCESS!
the people I work with and the
students that come to NU
Tech!”
Teacher Lori Osmond— “Our
students really need to be self
motivated, hard working, re-
spectful to others and have a
positive attitude. They need to
be punctual and have excellent
Our students know how to
make a resume and interview,
how to get a job, and how to
leave a job in work experience.
Our students get exposed to
many guest speakers, from all
types of careers, colleges, and
the military.
We want all of our students to
leave high school with a plan
and start their future with an
education that will help them
reach their career goal.
Teacher Lori says: “The best
part of my job is that I get to
know my students better than
many other teachers because I
have them for three hours eve-
ry day. I like the small family
environment that we create.
It is very exciting to see their
futures unfold because we stay
in touch. I love hearing from
our graduates once they have
attendance at
school and at
work. These
traits are needed
for a successful
lifetime.

adults is really
exciting!”
