Challenge
With two data centers, 840 servers, and 180 applications, Brookfield was challenged to understand how
much it would cost to move to Azure, and how it could efficiently build a migration plan.
Solution
Leveraged Cloudamize to understand the cost of its right-sized environment in Cloudamize and to
quickly build move groups for migration.
Results
Brookfield signed an Azure contract for a $2.5 M annual Azure subscription within 2 months of using
Cloudamize.
Agent-less Approach:
• VMWare-based environment (via vCenter read-only credentials)
• Hyper-V environment (via agent install on Hyper-V host box)
Agent-based Approach:
• Physical Windows/Linux machines
• Virtual machines for detailed analytics
Data Collection & Resource Consumption• Agent collects every 30 seconds and pushes out to Cloudamize servers every 5 minutes
• Typically – agents take 0.5% CPU usage
• Two processes: Data collection process and watchdog process to ensure resource utilization is throttled to avoid impact on day-to-day operations. E.g. Agents are throttled at @ 2% CPU usage.
• No reboots required
Security & Control• No inbound firewall rules to open
• Data travels over TLS 1.2 or corporate proxy
• Data encrypted in flight and at rest (AES 256)
• Can stop all agents / individual agents via Cloudamize portal
Deployment Method • MSFT System Center
• Active Directory
• vCenter (using VMWare guest tools)
• Chef / Puppet / bash scripts

• Preferred tool of MSFT – vetted by COE
• Proven platform – use logo deck & value driver slides
• Address common questions w/ agents faq slide
• Collected data can have other value outside of migration efforts -
show performance charts, fire wall rules etc. in demo
• Update CMDB
• Run security assessment
Manual approach
• Generally start w/ incomplete CMDB
• Have to fill in gaps w/ interviews
• Create pivot tables and Vizio diagrams to make sense of and visualize data
• Time and resource intensive for both partners and clients (can take months)
• High likelihood of inaccuracies
Cloudamize
• In most cases, no changes to firewall policy is needed so no issues with security change policy there.
• Business policies of software (agent) change management is applied so it can take up to a week to install everywhere.
• Quicker due to having all the necessary metrics at your finger tips
• User interface enables building move groups based on specific criteria and TCO of that group enabling faster migration

ASR Readiness Checks
SUCCESS
WARNING
CRITICAL
Download detailed analysis
Validation against ~20 checks to see if the
target is ready for ASR migration and divides
outcome into Success/Warning/Critical.
Provides workaround for the machines that
are identified with “Warning”
Example checks:
• General Disk Requirements
• Windows OS Requirements
• Hypervisor Requirements
• Disk Space Requirements
• .NET Version Requirements
• Boot Software Requirements
• Linux System Requirements
Work around: Use P30 and migrate to RAID 0 after migration
Disk’s performance requirement failed but can be achieved by striping data across several disks.
SUCCESS WARNING
CRITICAL
Use ASR Readiness in prioritizing move
groups.
Machines with “SUCCESS” – Migrate
them first.
Machines with “WARNING” - Use
recommended workaround to fix issue
and complete migration to Azure.

Example L2 support• I installed agents, but they don’t show up on the dashboard.• I don’t see all the applications on Cloudamize Plan• I installed VMWare proxy but my VMWare environment is still not
