Verbs ending in -car, -gar, and-zar have a spelling change in the “yo” form only in the pretérito.

Unos Irregulares (yo-yo verbs):

The “yo” form of the pretérito changes to conserve the sound of the infinitive:

-car-gar-zar

“-qu锓-gu锓-cé”

Stem Changing VerbsPensar(e,ie) is a stem changing verb. But it ends in –AR so it doesn’t make any changes. The same is true for shoe verbs that end in –er, like volver (o-ue).
