Ecuadorian Consortium for Advance Internet Development
“CEDIA”

Acting President
A Consortium led by Ecuadorian Universities and Research Institutions with partial support from the Ecuadorian Science and Technology Secretariat and its Executive branch the Ecuadorian Science and Technology Foundation (FUNDACYT), and The National Telecommunications Council (CONATEL) to facilitate the interconnection of Ecuador to Internet2.

October 2000: First contact with Heather Boyles.
July 2001: Presence at the steering committee meeting in Tempe, Arizona.
March 2002: First Ecuadorian Meeting about Internet2.
March 2002: First International Forum about Internet2.
September 2002: Official Ceremony before the President of Ecuador.

Agreement
I. Create an Ecuadorian Consortium for the Development of Advance Internet (CEDIA).
II. Express to Internet2’s representatives, who will be visiting Guayaquil March the 26th and 27th, during the International forum, through a letter of agreement.
III. Take steps before the national government for the inclusion of this initiative as part of the Presidential National Connectivity Agenda, and become a national policy.

IV. Invite the Ecuadorian Telecommunication companies to join the Consortium as strategic partners.
V. Appoint a National Commission to start elaborating a proposal for creating CEDIA, as well as to implement this agreement.

Regular meetings with members, President’s NCA, potential partners and providers, for determining the appropriate Ecuadorian access point, operations of CEDIA and appointing of the board.
Meetings with potential partners for developing joint applications, from US, Europe and Regional Universities.
