Embracing the appeal of that which does not belong, EVOKE Contemporary boldly exhibits a vast number of works on paper in a space usually reserved for paintings and sculpture, proving there is something strangely seductive and occasionally un-settling about the interloper.

Many of the artists in this show are interlopers as they do not regularly show with the gallery, and in many cases will be first time exhibitors in Santa Fe. The work en-compasses a wide technical range of draftsmanship and mixed media styles with a strong focus on the application of graphite on paper, and a close look at the beauty and potential of the often overlooked medium of works on paper. The subject matter clearly puts forth the defining character of the show in its subtle interloping fashion that must be experienced in person to be understood. We recommend that you do not miss this spectacular exhibition featuring 30 artists!

The inspiration for this show is our dearly departed friend, Sandford (Sandy) Besser, 1936 -2011.

Sandy was a renowned art colllector who lived a life filled with art and shared that passion with others - gifting significant collections to the Museum of Indian Arts & Culture, Spanish Colonial Arts Society, Arizona State University Art Museum, the Arkansas Arts Center and the De Young Museum in San Francisco. Many pieces from Sandy’s collection are included in this exhibition and available for purchase. They clearly reflect his astute recognition of exceptional talent, his courage to savor rousing subjects and his endearing dry humor.
