Designer Colum McCartan provided a project brief for the design of a boutique hotel lobby, suite, and bath in the heart of Silicon Valley. The Project was presented to designer upon completion.

The bedroom suite invites guests to relax and unwind in a spacious bed inset in a backdrop of colorful, geometric patterned wallpaper by Cole and Son. The use of soothing grays, grounding black, arctic white, and majestic purple accents produces a calm, neutral balance throughout the space.

SUITE 802

The bathroom offers a refreshing, crisp environment for hotel guests to indulge in their evening and morning practices of cleansing, regeneration and rejuvenation. White porcelain tile creates a pristine atmosphere that feels fresh and clean. A bold band of royal blue tile wraps around the bathroom giving it a calm, soothing quality.

SUITE 802 BATH

The lobby’s sitting area is inviting and comfortable. Guests can relax on the sofas and chairs or enjoy each other’s company around the luminescent table-bench. The sleek, geometrical shaped check-in desk and cylinder shaped end table illuminate the lobby with a constant ambient glow of light. Visitors staying at Hotel Beta won’t miss a moment as they come in from outside to the welcoming lights and alluring designs of the hotel’s lobby.

Fresco Restaurant, located in Ogden, was designed with the intent of combing both classy and fresh elements in relation to its décor and food. This upscale restaurant offers a clean and comfortable environment to enjoy garden-fresh Italian food. Bespoke furniture was used to add to the unique feel of the space. High-end lighting, along with natural lighting, adds to the fine dining experience and makes the environment more memorable.

REI FLAGSHIP STORE This REI flagship store located in Washington D.C. has a unique and welcoming design. The space is set up for customers to be able to easily move throughout the store and find particular items. The store emanates an open feeling, which allows customers to see through spaces and not feel closed off. A friendly, outdoorsy environment is created through the use of REI’s cool greys, greens, and wood tones. Graphics are a key element in the design and gives the space visual interest and appeal. People can feel like they are out in nature with the large-scale graphics. Incorporating technology is important and will give patrons and visitors a way to connect to REI, the D.C. area, and be able to look what is available and of interest to them. Custom fixtures create visual interest and generate exceptional functionality for the product. Wrap around structures give the space an intimate feel to the large surrounding space. Individuals are able to experience the outdoors through a variety of materials incorporated into the space and through the usage of imaginative graphics. Customers can easily find what they need if they are in a hurry, or if time permits they can explore the surrounding area or relax in the commons area. A great outdoor shopping experience awaits you inside this D.C. flagship store. Customers are provided with easy, relaxing shopping as well as an adventure at every turn.

Lunchtime and library time, favorites at any elementary school, are bright spots at Dee Elementary School located in Ogden, Utah. The task to create a lunchroom that would work better for the students and fit in the given floor plan was a fun undertaking. Custom booths were created to look like little houses for the kids to eat in and enjoy. This architectural element added dimension and a cozy, homey feel to the space. Different seating options add variety and interest to the open space. A large bespoke sign saying, “LUNCHTIME” was created to hang from the ceiling. Bright colors were used to keep the space playful and cheerful for the students.

The library, also designed for Dee Elementary, was created to compliment the lunchroom by incorporating similar colors and themes. Little study cubbies were designed to give students a quiet corner to retreat and curl up with a book. Other seating options are provided for groups or individual students. The environment is simple and clutter-free, which keeps the focus on the wonder and excitement found within the books being read. Large-scale words like READ, LEARN, and EXPLORE are throughout the library adding dimension and inspiration to the space.

RESIDENTIAL

Sandra Oh’s beautiful Bellevue home is given a bold new interior of rich and luxurious colors.

FINISHING TOUCH

he location is pristine

with its picture-perfect

views – located in the

hilltops of Bellevue,

Seattle’s largest suburb. The house was

impeccable on the outside and exhibited a beauty and charm that

matched its surroundings. However, the inside unveiled a lack of

personality and was devoid of design. Sandra Oh was looking for a

space that would better represent her taste and the essence of

character. She wanted a high end, luxurious space to entertain

guests in an intimate and swanky setting. An element of finesse

was needed to convert this space to the level of glamour Oh desired.

Rich colors were used to convey a luxurious feeling. The sofa was

upholstered in a sumptuously rich blue and the chairs in a plush,

dark red. Gold accents were used to give the space a touch of

elegance, while remaining cozy. The use of lush gem tones with

warm earth tones was eye-catching, yet not overdone. The high

walls were a perfect canvas for artwork and designer pieces. Unique

antiques with an element of individuality were found to give the

space a one-of-a kind look to enhance Oh’s distinctive style. The

stunning sculptural hanging light fixture has an explosive impact

on the room. Adding a gorgeous rug that framed the furniture with

sophisticated detail made for the finishing touch.
