Interactive Measurements
The Leica Application Suite InteractiveMeasurement Module is designed tosimplify the manual tasks involved whenderiving calibrated measurement para-meters such as length, area, perimeter,diameterandangles.By tracingaroundanobjectofinterest,itiseasytoidentifyareasof significance and perform sophisticatedmeasurements upon them. The colour andline thickness of measurement tracingscanevenbeadjustedtocontrast fullywiththe underlying image or merged into it tocreate a permanent record. Furthermore,each measurement can be labelled witha sequence number, a parameter name, avalueandawrittencomment.
The LAS InteractiveMeasurement moduleallows objects to be counted individuallyand assigned to a labelled class whichcan be allocated a specific colour foridentification purposes. Additionally, thosethat consist of multiple fragments can begroupedsothat thetotalareaof thegroupisderived.Allconfigurationsdefinedduringmeasurements can also be saved andrecalledforconvenientrepetition.

In order to provide the most in depthfindingstheLASInteractiveMeasurementsmoduleprovidesvariousoptionsforreview-ing and reporting results. Measurementresults can be displayed in tabular formand easily saved, exported and printed inMicrosoft Word and Excel. Furthermore,statisticscanbecalculatedintermsoftotal,mean, mode, median, standard deviation,maximum and minimum values and manymore.
LAS is based on Windows PCs andprovides a cost-effective and uniformenvironment, compatible across the Leicarange ofmicroscopes andDigital FireWirecameras*.
Measurement Options
The LAS InteractiveMeasurement moduleprovides a workflow approach to definingtheparametersduringsetup,throughtotheactual measurements and the subsequentanalyses. Measurement types includedepicting the vector distance betweenpoints,determiningangle,widthandheightandcalculatingareasandmeanintensity.
Themeaurementprocesscanbeoperatedin two modes, either in basic or accuma-lation. Basic mode is mostly applied tomeasurements on individual imageswhilstaccumalation mode can be used whencalculationsareapplied tomultiple imagestoobtainstatisticalinformation.
• Layer Thickness Measurements–crosssectionalsamplesaremeasuredtodiscovercoatingthicknessandskinthickness.
• Cell Area Measurements–thecircumferenceofacellistraced.Whereseveralcellshavebeentraced,theareaaveragecanbedetermined.Alltracingscanbesavedandrecalledforanyfutureeditingrequirements.
• Count Tool–Thenumberofpositiveandnegetivecellscanbecountedinanimmunologicalstainandappropriateclassesassigned.Countscanbeaccumaltedforeachclassandlabelledappropriately.
