dye lots

dye lot or “run number” printed on each roll

represents a particular group of rolls printed on the same run

ensures uniformity in color and pattern

record pattern numbers & dye lot numbers in case additional rolls are needed

pattern match/repeats

random match—pattern matches no matter how adjoining strips are positioned; produces much less waste; example—grasscloth

straight-across match—design elements match on adjoining strips; every strip same at ceiling line; example—stripes

types

vinyl—variety of price points; most durable; 3 types: paper-backed, fabric-backed, vinyl-impregnated cloth

paper—more delicate; do not scrub; best used in low-maintenance rooms

embossed—have texture rolled into them; hide imperfections of wall

flocked—rayon & nylon fibers-washable; brushing against them flattens flock

types

foil—aluminum laminated to paper & simulated metallic; wash & dry carefully; show any wall imperfections

grasscloth—oriental import; variation of color throughout; vacuum gently to clean

hemp, hulu, burlap—also oriental, loom woven, delicate and unwashable
