INSULATING A GARAGE -IS IT WORTH IT?

SHOULD YOU OR SHOULD NOT

INSULATE YOUR GARAGE?

WHAT IS THE RIGHT ANSWER WHEN IT COMES

TO INSULATING THIS PART OF YOUR HOME?

Seal All Cracks

Make sure that every nook and crack that allows

cold air to flow into it has been sealed, ideally with an

expanding foam, to stop heat escaping from your garage.

Once done, look at the rest of

your garage for proper insulation:

starting with the garage door,

which is your biggest area of heat loss.

The frame around the garage door

should be checked for even the smallest gusts

of air escaping in, as should every window frame.

Need A Heat Source

Just remember that insulating your

garage is pretty much pointless unless the

room has a heat source of some kind.

You can rely on the ambient heat

of electrical appliances if you want.

Unless you're running a computer

server rack in your garage it's unlikely

that a standard refrigerator or dishwasher is going

to have any impact on the temperature of the room

Key Heat Loss Areas

Insulating your garage isn't a bad idea,

but doing that without having a heat source

inside your garage is a gigantic waste of money.

Spend some money on making

the interior of your home more

energy efficient, especially key heat loss

areas such as your attic and crawl spaces.
