This year marks a milestone for the St. Vincent Foundation – its 50th anniversary! Thanks to generous donors like you, the Foundation has played an instrumental role at St. Vincent Indianapolis over the years, and it all began with the work of the Daughters of Charity.
The Daughters of Charity were the first to see the need for a Foundation at St. Vincent. Sister Carlos McDonnell guided the formation of the St. Vincent Foundation in 1967-1968 to receive contributions from individuals and corporations to support education and research. Since then, the funds and programs have grown tremendously and the Foundation has been engaged in nearly every significant capital project to support the sick, poor and vulnerable at St. Vincent.
From opening the St. Vincent Joshua Max Simon Primary Care Center to serve the most underserved populations, renaming the Children’s Hospital to Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital at St. Vincent, to the latest capital projects including the St. Vincent House and William K. Nasser, MD Healthcare Education and Simulation Center at St. Vincent, the Foundation’s accomplishments have been made possible because of the generosity of donors.
Thank you for your loyalty and generosity over the past 50 years! Through your contributions, the Foundation will continue to impact hundreds of thousands of caregivers, patients and families at St. Vincent.
Please read a special prayer, found on Page 11
After having served in many capacities as a Daughter of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul and St. Louise de Marillac, Sister Lucille Marie Beauchamp was directed to serve at St. Vincent to lead the Foundation in 2005.
“I still remember visiting patients which brought me such joy and allowed me to witness the gentle and thoughtful care of St. Vincent. I invited patients to pray with me and they were very receptive. Many of the patients I visited went on to make generous donations after their experience with St. Vincent!”
–Sister Lucille Marie Beauchamp, Daughters of Charity
Sue Anne Gilroy, Executive Director of the St. Vincent Foundation, and Sister Lucille Marie Beauchamp celebrated the opening and dedication of the St. Vincent House in April 2017.
Lucas Jackson and Others Benefit from Funds Raised during Love It! SoiréeLucas Jackson is young and active, despite his family history of heart failure. His father passed away of heart failure just one month after being diagnosed, which led Lucas to being tested and diagnosed with congestive heart failure shortly after.
Lucas received a device called HeartMate III, which means Lucas can wait for a heart transplant until doctors find the perfect heart for his body. Dr. Christopher Salerno, Lucas’s physician, performed the surgery and noted, “I am confident that he (Lucas) would not be with us without this heart pump.” Dr. Salerno was the first doctor in Indiana to implant this device, and Lucas was the second patient in the United States to receive this heart pump.
This life saving option for Lucas was possible because of the research trials being done at the St. Vincent Cardiovascular Research Institute, which was the beneficiary of the Love It! Soirée hosted by the Forrest and Charlotte Lucas family and Lucas Oil in August 2017. The event raised over $730,000 to expand the access and number of research studies performed at the St. Vincent Cardiovascular Research Institute, ensuring that patients are screened and enrolled in studies at St. Vincent.
To receive information about the Love It! Soirée to take place in August 2018, contact Sara Homburg at 317-338-5095 or sara.homburg@ascension.org.

Constructing Lifelong Education at St. VincentAmazing progress has been made on the William K. Nasser, MD Healthcare Education and Simulation Center at St. Vincent since the groundbreaking last fall. The walls are up, the building is enclosed, and excitement is building at St. Vincent.
To celebrate progress, a “Dry and Wine” event was held in January in the Lilly Conference Center attached to the new structure. Donors had an opportunity to take a hard hat tour and were inspired by an announcement from Wanda and Tony Nasser, MD, that an additional contribution from the Nasser Family brings the Campaign to its fundraising goal.
As building continues, watch its progress through the construction camera link at give.stvincent.org. Preparations are being made for a Dedication and Blessing event this summer.
(l-r) Dennis Dickos, MD, Richard Fogel, MD and Sue Anne Gilroy enjoy a hard hat tour of the facility, which was offered during the event.

4th Annual RTV6 Telethon Supports Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital The 4th Annual RTV6 Telethon benefiting Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital at St. Vincent was an incredible success, thanks to the support of donors, community volunteers and associates.
The Telethon, which aired on August 29, wrapped up year-long fundraising efforts that raised more than $365,000 to care for children and families across Indiana who are served by the Children’s Hospital.
Contributions from the Telethon will be used to support projects like the new St. Vincent House, a hospitality house on the St. Vincent campus that provides a place to stay for families who live far away and have loved ones receiving extended care at the hospital.

Run. Walk. Inspire Hope. Over 1,000 community members and cancer survivors gathered on Saturday, September 16 to run, walk and inspire hope for cancer patients at St. Vincent during the annual St. Vincent Cancer Run/Walk Challenge presented by Turner Construction Company.
One of the participants, Melanie Woodard, served as an Ambassador for the 2017 event. Melanie was diagnosed with uterine leiomyosarcoma (ULMS) in 2012 and leukemia in late 2014. For Melanie, this was a way to support a cause close to her heart and to engage her friends and family who came out in full force!
“I am not a victim of cancer... I am a warrior and no matter what happens, I still have a history of victory!”
– Melanie Woodard
This year, the event raised over $200,000 and 100% of funds raised will support patients like Melanie by enhancing radiation therapy services at St. Vincent Cancer Center. The enhancements include renovations that will allow for anesthesia to be offered to the most vulnerable cancer patient populations across the state, from children to specialized breast care patients, as needed during their cancer treatments. For information on the 2018 St. Vincent Cancer Run/Walk Challenge, contact Sara Homburg at 317.338.5095 or

Attorney Byron Mason Continues his Legacy at St. Vincent
Attorney Byron Mason was young, but he was also thoughtful when it came time to designate his retirement fund at his law firm. His thoughts were of children and families who might benefit in the unlikely event something happened to him, so he chose to make Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital at St. Vincent his beneficiary.
Unfortunately, the unlikely became reality when Byron, an Indianapolis native and the first African American to be named partner at then Baker & Daniels, passed away in December 2015. Working with his brother Daryl, the St. Vincent Foundation used his gift to establish the Byron Mason Pediatric Patient Assistance Fund which will help families in need at Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital at St. Vincent.
The average American will have up to seven careers in his or her lifetime. As you change jobs and/or companies, there is an opportunity to make a charitable organization the full or partial beneficiary of your retirement fund.
Please consider benefiting our pediatric patients, or any program or cause at St. Vincent such as cancer, cardiology, or research. Contact Nancy Frick at nafrick@ascension.org or 317-338-5081 for more information on ways you can leave a legacy at St. Vincent and become part of the Legacy Society.

Indiana Quarter Horse Association Sponsors Themed Room in Honor of Past Patient
With great anticipation, the Indiana Quarter Horse Room was dedicated at Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital at St. Vincent on December 6. In attendance were leaders and members of the Indiana Quarter Horse Association, and the family of Kylie Marschand in whose memory funds were raised. Kylie was a courageous teenaged patient of Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital whose cheerful spirit and dedication to helping children with cancer is evident in the newest themed room.
Quarter horses are a unique American breed known for their sure footed, gentle natures. Like the quarter horse itself, the room will bring a sense of peace to patients and families. And like those who have a passion for showing quarter horses, it will provide a bright spirit of joy and hope to all who stay there.
One wall is filled with vibrant paints which depict quarter horses in a show.
The room showcases different quarter horse equipment, and special treasures of Kylie.
Healthcare Initiatives Grant Helps Pediatric Patients Keep Up with Schoolwork
Indianapolis-based Healthcare Initiatives, Inc. awarded a $50,000 grant to support the Patient Education Assistance Program at Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital at St. Vincent. This program provides direct, personalized educational assistance to school-age pediatric patients who are away from school for an extended period of time due to their hospitalization.
The program features a full-time, on-site teacher who helps each patient keep up with schoolwork to the extent that they are able. Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital at St. Vincent recently hired a new teacher for this position. Heather Wiselogle comes to St. Vincent from Carmel Clay Schools, where she had been a teacher and tutor for 15 years. Heather began her new role January 2018.
Heather Wiselogle works with patients daily to help them excel in school while they are in the hospital.

A Special Prayer from Sister Lucille Marie Beauchamp as we reflect on the 50th Anniversary of the St. Vincent Foundation
“After the love of God, your principal concern must be to serve the sick poor with great gentleness and cordiality, sympathizing with them in ailments and listening to their little complaints ... for they look on you as people sent by God to help them. You are therefore intended to represent the goodness of God in the eyes of the sick poor.”
