WELCOME TO YEAR 4 - 2017
The Hive will be used for:• Class blogs• Interactive for teachers, parents and students – communication• Timetables, Calendar, Unit planners, expected outcomes• Homework tasks set, submission of some tasks and homework reminders• Links to resources, video clips, websites used in the classroom• Capacity to share feedback and assessment for tasks when submitted• Resources to enhance learning beyond the classroom• Extension and enrichment opportunities
The Hive will be able to show: • What is being taught• What is being assessed• What is being learnt
This term teachers and students will be trialling information sharing through the Hive.
Parents can choose to access The Hive using their child’s log in details. We encourage you to do this so that you can contribute to feedback sessions in semester two.Parents will have their own log in for The Hive created in Term 2. We are hoping to eventually link Caremonkey, Parent Portal etc. all from one single log in but this won’t be available until semester two.

MORNING ROUTINES…
• Students can access their locker before school• At 8:50am students can organise their belongings & come into the classroom if we are in the room•If your child is late, they need to visit the office before heading to the classroom•Daily Reading (approx. 20mins) • We would love parent helpers for these morning reading sessions.
IN THE CLASSROOM…
• English is often in the early part of the day, followed by Mathematics and Unit Of Inquiry later in the day. (timetable depending)
• As part of the school’s commitment to mindfulness and well being students will participate in short meditation sessions. Our meditation time will vary depending on the student’s schedule and needs.
• Social Skills Program ‘Happy Children Successful Adults –Developing Social & Emotional Skills and Awareness
• Learning Support – Jacinta Conway• Please note that some students will receive learning support• There may be some possibility of withdrawal from class for some
students and this will be communicated to the parents of the children concerned
DIARY & HOMEWORK…
Diary – communication tool, important dates, timetable & recording of home reading. We ask parents to please sign the diary each day.
Homework in Year 4 – up to 30 minutes each night
Homework reinforces and encourages the development of:• The learning that takes place at school• Self management skills and good study habits• Parent involvement in your child’s learning
In Year 4 students need to: Read daily (aloud and independently) for 15-20 minutesPractise spellingMathletics – set tasks and live MathsPractise musical instrumentGathering resources for research, summative tasks, UOI tasks

ECOKIDS…
Wednesday 1st – Friday 3rd November
Anglesea • Encourages independence, risk taking, resilience,
confidence & strengthening interpersonal relationships• Try to prepare the children leading up to the event –
sleepovers, getting dressed independently, brushing teeth, packing a bag, sleeping bag in cover, pillow in pillow case etc.
• It is the expectation of the College that all students attend
