INFOMAR PHASE 2
Mapping the offshore gap
Dr. Fabio Sacchetti
Hydrographic Team Leader. INFOMAR. Marine Institute
Phase 2 – what’s left
Phase 2 – what’s left
Depth classes Ship classes
Phase 2 – How many days?
Assumptions
• Survey speed of 8 kt
• Swath coverage
limited to 65°
• Average line overlap
of 20%
Phase 2 – How many days?
Further assumptions
• Port calls/ mob and demob days. In this calculation it is estimated that 2 days of mob/demob
time are required every 4 weeks.
• Weather and technical standby. The amount of survey days are deliberately increased by 20%
to take into account of weather and/or technical downtime.
Followings are not included in the assesment:
1. Bathymetric area 0-50 which will also require considerable amount of work on smaller survey
vessels.
2. Many other factors such as equipment upgrades and maintenance, cross lines, sampling, data
management and interpretations are also ignored.
