Incredible Years Reflection

Session Four: Tuesday 22nd October 2013

The value of an individual incentive has reduced inappropriate behaviours.

Use student bargaining as a tool to get the end results.

Power of teacher attention is so important.

The power of noticing appropriate behaviour and recording them.

Establishing student buy in is very powerful.

Knowing your children is so important.

Important to choose one behaviour and achieve success with that.

Use of proximal praise having a positive effect.

Remember it takes time for change to occur.

Developing a cohesive classroom by using the strategies.Give children the tools and strategies and self belief increases.

IY principles are easy for teachers to follow.

The power of “double impact” when a student receives extra compliments from peers.

When using ignoring, give attention as soon as the student is doing what he/she should be doing.

We feel good when we take the time to take care of ourselves.

Class visits give facilitators the chance to recognise the great teaching going on.

The effect of good relationships in the class is that the teacher feels good too.

Calm down time does work for students.

Take deep breaths, relax and realise it will get better.

Don’t take it personally when students misbehave.

A supportive staff helps us cope.

It’s a challenge to maintain “Consistency” with incentives but worth it.
