IMPORTANT TEAS UPDATES

As of August 31, 2016, a new version of the TEAS exam was

implemented by Assessment Technologies Institute (ATI). The new

version is known as “ATI TEAS” and is the sixth installment of the TEAS

exam.

While the ATI TEAS and TEAS V are similar in terms of difficulty, there

were a number of content updates that occurred for the ATI TEAS.

Therefore, “the TEAS V preparation materials will not provide the tester

with a comprehensive overview of the topics assessed. Individuals

preparing for the ATI TEAS will want to purchase the ATI TEAS

preparation materials”.

Another change to come along with the implementation of the ATI

TEAS, is that students are now permitted to use a four function

calculator during the exam. Students may NOT bring their own. Instead,

calculators will be embedded within the online version of the exam.

Test centers that use the paper pencil version will provide four function

calculators for their examinees.

Finally, for those who may have previously taken the TEAS V, you will

notice that the ATI TEAS score report looks a bit different. This is mostly

just a cosmetic change. All of the most information is the same. It’s just

a bit more reader friendly.

What is the TEAS?

The Test of Essential Academic Skills is a pre-entrance exam used to measure the

aptitude of students looking to gain admission into nursing and other allied health fields.

It was developed by the Assessment Technologies Institute (ATI) and is employed by

many schools all over the country and in Canada

What subjects are covered on the exam?

There are 170 questions spread out over four sections: Reading, math, and science and

English and language usage.

How long is the exam?

The maximum length of the exam is 209 minutes or approximately 3 ½ hours . However,

the TEAS exams are scheduled in 4 hour increments (e.g. 8:30am – 12:30pm). This is

done to ensure that students are given the proper amount of time. Students can finish

earlier than the maximum allowed.

Is the exam taken on a computer?

Yes. All exams will be computerized. Paper/pencil exams are not offered through CCAC.

What is the process for students needing to request accommodations?

Students who have a documented impairment may request that an accommodation.

The process is described below.

*If you are already a CCAC student and have registered with Supportive Services, please

skip to Step 3.

1.) Apply to CCAC via the general application

2.) Register with one of CCAC’s Supportive Services Offices. Supportive Services

staff will help you to determine what documentation you need and will review

your case to determine if you qualify for accommodations under ADA guidelines.

3.) Once approved, the supportive services staff will submit a Written Request

for TEAS Accommodation to areed@ccac.edu. This form must be completed and

signed by both a supportive services staff member and the student. Further

instruction will then be given to the student in regard to payment.

Students who are approved for an accommodation will receive extended time (1.5X the

normal allotment). The exam will also be given in the Supportive Services Office in order

to provide a quiet and intimate space for the test taker. For that reason, students will

need to schedule the exam on a separate date and time. The time arrangement must

work for both the student and the SS staff.

Are there any study resources available?

Yes. We recommend the official ATI resources. There is an ATI TEAS study guide and

practice tests that can be purchased separately or as a package. You can find these

items on the ATI website (https://www.atitesting.com/ati_store/) . You may also search

for them online or at other bookstores.

Additionally, there is an online ATI course that students may want to purchase. It is

referred to as the ATI TEAS Smartprep Study Package. While it is a little pricey ($209.00),

it includes the study book, practice tests (Forms A & B), and the online prep course

also be able to find alternative resources on the web.

Where/When can I take the exam?

TEAS exams are scheduled at different times of the year. CCAC offers many different

sections at 5 different locations: Allegheny, Boyce, CAL U, North and South Campuses.

Dates and times of these exams will be posted in advising offices, nursing department

offices and on the web beginning in November for Fall admission periods and in May for

the Spring admission periods.

* Students may also take the TEAS exam at another location or institution outside of

CCAC. However, it is the students’ responsibility to request scores to be sent to CCAC

or personally deliver them to the appropriate party before the application deadline.

Score transcript are $27.00.

What scores do I need in order to pass?

In order to be considered for admission, students must earn an Adjusted Individual Total

Score of 58.7%.

What happens if I do not pass?

Students who do not pass the TEAS may retake the exam. Students should wait at least

30 days between attempts. It is highly recommended that students use this time to

review their score sheets thoroughly, meet with a tutor, and study appropriately before

retaking. Students may test only 3 times in one 12 month period so be careful. Those

who have not earned the 58.7% by the end of the application period for which they are

applying, will not be considered for admission to the CCAC nursing program.

How do I register for the TEAS?

Are there fees associated with registering?

Yes. There is a $76 non-refundable base fee that covers the exam and score report.

Additional score reports are $27 each. Major credit cards and debit cards are accepted.

If need to, can I reschedule the exam once I am registered?

No. Students cannot reschedule the exam unless the test is cancelled by CCAC. If a

student is unable to test on the originally schedule date, they are required to register for

and pay for a seat on another day.

When will I get my scores?

Students who take the computerized exam will get their scores at the conclusion of the

exam. Your scores will be available for you under the My Results tab on your ATI

account.

* Please remember that paper exams are not offered at CCAC locations

How do I read my score report?

The Total Score is the score that will be used during the evaluation of your nursing

application. Notice that ATI provides you with both national and program means and

percentile ranks to help you compare your scores to that of your peers around the

nation who are applying for similar programs. CCAC offers an ADN program (Associate

Degree in Nursing) so you will compared with others applying for ADN programs. The

Program Type on the sample score sheet below says BSN, but your scores will be

compared only to those who are applying for ADN programs.

of the exam, as well as the Adjusted Individual Total Score. This data should be used to help you

find any deficiencies in your skillset and develop a remediation plan. Bring these score reports

along with you should you decide to schedule an individual study session with a tutor.

Registering for the TEAS

1. Visit the ATI website at www.atitesting.com.

2. Create an account

3. Select “Online Store”

4. On the left side of the page under Register For…Select the link for TEAS (DO NOT select TEAS

PSI).

5. Select your program type which is TEAS for Nursing Students

6. Then Select your Country (USA), State (PA) and City (Pittsburgh)

7. You should see CCAC Allegheny on this page. To find another CCAC location, click the “Location”

drop box at the top of the page. Scroll down to find the acronym CCAC. Each campus that has an

active, upcoming session will be listed here. If you do not see the campus of your choice under

the location menu, then there is no upcoming exams for that specific location. In that instance,

please choose another CCAC campus as your testing center. Use the learn more button to see

the address, room number and special instructions provided for each campus- There are a

maximum of 5 campus options that CCAC offers here.

* If you find that you have selected the wrong campus, you can back out of this page and select a

different campus as long as you have not registered.
