2012-2017

Project Monitoring CellDirectorate of Horticulture

LALBAGH, BANGALORE

1. Extension and demonstrations to Farmers groups on annual and perennial horticulture crops, nutritional gardens and crop water management

2. Establishment of soil, water and leaf tissue analysis facilities and monitoring the nutritional status through training and capacity building programme

3. Strengthening post harvest management, marketing and value addition through technical support by instituting the studies for generating scientific know-how

4. Strengthening horticulture sector through service support for meeting the above requirements

Objectives:

Background:Horticulture crops provide excellent opportunities in improving the income of farmers even in dry tracks. The successful experience of Sujala – I has led to inclusion of horticulture component in Sujala-III.

Farmers in micro watershed areas will be mobilized to adopt collective approach for harnessing the benefits of scale up production with better post harvest and value addition practices in arid horticulture crops .

The project provides the incremental management support and training by complementing the current interventions to improve productivity of existing perennial and annual horticulture crops and provide diversification through capacity building of farmers”

Approach:

Components under Horticulture:

1. Extension and Demonstration for Productivity improvement .

2. Farmer Horticulture Soil and Crop Monitoring.

3. Model Nurseries.

4. Post Harvest Management of Horticulture Produce.

5. Strengthening of Market Linkages in rural areas.

6. Horticulture Service Support.

• Base line survey of the Micro watershed Areas• Net Planning • Formation of farmers Interest Groups (FIGs)• Beneficiary Identification• Demonstration (Annuals, Perennials, Nutrition gardens through

local innovative technologies) • Convergence Plan through integration of Programmes• Hands on training to the farmers, facilitator, stakeholders and

aggregators on dry land horticulture technology, sample analysis and post harvest activities

• Establishment of horticulture infrastructures for demonstrations • Soil, Water and Leaf analysis in MWS and issue of health cards• Conversion of Departmental Horticulture farms to model MWS

demonstration blocks. • Exposure visits and field days for better dissemination of

technology• Formation of Farmers Producers Organization (FPOs)• Scientific post harvest practices and market linkages through

FPO’s and other organisation• Horticulture Service Support

Implementation strategies: ( Participatory mode and process oriented)
