    ILLUSTRATED SPARE PARTS LIST

    P R E F A C E

    1. This I l lus t ra ted Spare P a r t s L i s t has been prepared t o a s s i s t Units in identifying any component part o r assembly of p a r t s l i k e l y t o be required a s replacements. A l l concerned w i l l use the catalogue numbers and item names given in t h i s L i s t *en demanding spare par ts o r when referr ing i n corres- pondence t o any part of the Equipment. A l l demands f o r items l i s t e d herein must be submitted t o the appropriate authority i n accordance with War Office standing instructions.

    2. The principal difference between t h i s L i s t and a Caapre- hensive L i s t of Component P a r t s . ( ~ l l u s t r a t e d ) is that , whilst the l a t t e r covers every component of an equipment, t h i s Lis t includes only those items which a r e normally provided by R.A.O.C. o r R.E.

    3. The Catalogue Nos. quoted in 'this list w i l l supersede any Catalogue Ngs. that may have been a l lo t t ed previously.

    4. When demanding Spare Par t s the following par t iculars must be quoted: -

    (a) V.A.O.S. 0rR.E.V.S. Section.

    (b) Catalogue number.

    (c) Item Name or Designation.

    The old s tyle b y Designation consisted of a noun followed bv suff ic ient dis t inct ive character is t ics t o reason- ably identify the item. The whole was o f f ic ia l ly known a s the "Designationn.

    The Item Name a s defined in the N.A.T.O. & p l y Class i f i - cation Manuals comprises e i the r a single noun, a noun followed by usually not more than two modifiers, o r a noun phrase. The Item Name f o r Army purpo'ses is supported by an Item Descrip- t ion, which includes those a t t r ibu tes v q u i r e d t o provide a unique description of the item.

    For an interim period column 2 of the I l lus t ra ted Spare Par t s L i s t has been headed "Item N'me" o r qesignation". When a Designation i s used in column 2 no Item Description appears in column 3.

    6 . Alternatives quoted apply only t o the Equipment covered by t h i s list.

    7. Certain Items i l l u s t r a t e d i n t h i s list have not been cata- logued since it i s considered that they w i l l not normally be required ad! replacements. Should there be a requirement f o r any item not catalogued, demands may be submitted quoting War Office Code No. of t h i s publication, item number, p la te refer- ence and item name. Where a manufacturer' s number is .shown t h i s should a l s o be quoted.

    (d) Name of Equipment f o r which the part i s required. 8. Any canmunication regarding t h i s list should be made t o t h e O.C. Army Cataloguing Authority, Building B. 45, Royal Arsenal,
