What is an IHE Connectathon?

• All organizations have a test process before they release a product (software or hardware)– University research lab: Did it compile? Ship it.– Two guys and a PC: Earl, I tested with IE 8. Ship it.– ISO 9001 compliant organizations: Formalized

quality control process before delivery

These Are Specified Differently

• Communication Interfaces– W3C– HL7– DICOM– IETF

Testing Software Per IHE Specifications• Vendors want standalone tools to validate in

their laboratory• Vendors want to meet in person or over the

Internet to test against each other

Connectathon

• A publicized point in time• Software testing organized by IHE sponsors as

neutral observers• Participants test– Against some tools for detailed work– Against other participants

Testing With Multiple Partners

• Test only against a test suite– Not enough

• Test against a single partner– Maybe we both made the same mistake

• Test against three partners– Not a guarantee of operation in the field, but– More confidence your application will work with

other applications

Sponsors Provide

• Publication of successful test results

How Does One Participate?

• Related but different answers• Connectathon is a testing event– You select from a menu of items to test– We test you and publish results

• Showcase is a demonstration event– You might pick from a list of items, or– You might work with Showcase management to

define an interoperability scenario

Connectathon Registration

• Gazelle is a web based system that will manage your registration and testing

• This selection will control your testing• Registration opens August 16

Important Dates

contact participants and remove testing

What Do You Do Now?
