What is an Ident?

• An Ident is a moving image or

logo used by a television

channel or a production

company. It’s often played

before a film or TV show

associated with the brand.

Why do we use Idents?

• To establish the brand identity

• To keep the identity up to date

• To promote the brand to the viewers

Thriller Idents

These Idents align with the conventions of the thriller genre as they are quite dark in colour and obscure enough to create an enigma.

Dream Works

I like this Ident because it is multifunctional: • The symbol of the moon

creates a distance from reality• The dark, evening sky creates

engima• The clouds add a sense of

hope • The white figure fishing

implies it is not too adult and may appeal to a slightly younger audience.

This is my favourite Ident I have seen because of the use of colour.• The black, white and grey imagery

creates a dark, enigmatic visual surrounding the ident

• The brand is shown clearly • There are people in the image but

they are obscured which creates mystery and suspense

• The use of water splashing is interesting, visually appealing and creates mystery.

Plans for my Ident

• I’d like my Ident to be quite short, only around 10 seconds

long.

• I want a dark background to align with genre conventions

and to create a sense of suspense and enigma.

• I like the idea of having multifunctional Ident like Dream

Works as then I am not limiting myself to one particular

audience.
