Yesterday

Learning based only on Teacher….

I expect you all to be independent, innovative, critical thinkers who

will do exactly as I say!

Teacher was the only source of information for students

But, is it still today??

Maybe, Yesterday this was enough to satisfy our

children’s educational needs

Can our kids of the 21st century be satisfied learners by the old fashioned way?

or we just bore them to death …

and we open them the door to early school drop out?

We owe to teach our students HOW to learn not WHAT.

Because who knows what they will need to know 10 years from now???

How can I trust your information when you are using such outdated technology?

It is obvious that if we want to teach to children that live in the New Information Age we need to bring New

Information Technologies in Education

WHY?Because: •A new society requires new skills• ICT enhance productivity• ICT provide quality learning• ICT attract students and raise interest• ICT get students involved

WHY?

• ICT open a window to vast information• ICT open a window to communication• ICT provide distance learning• ICT diminish distances and reduce time

What are the benefits for students?ICT help:

•Avoid discretion•Raise self esteem• Foster concentration•Develop methodical way of thinking

What are the benefits for students?

ICT help:

•Promote critical thinking •Promote project based learning• Support multiple intelligences• Facilitate students with disabilities

What are the benefits for teachers?

•Organization•Evaluation• Information•Virtualization

Do you remember Bloom’s taxonomy for education?

Bloom's Taxonomy was created in 1956 under the leadership of educational psychologist Dr Benjamin Bloom in order to promote higher forms of thinking in education

EXAMPLES OF HOW ICT CAN PROMOTE THIS HIGHER FORMS OF THINKING…

But if ICT offer so much to education why not all teachers adopt it?

• Lack of equipment• Lack of training• Fear of technology use• Fear to leave the comfort zone of the already

known

To what extend do teachers’ profiles in Europe make a difference to the use of ICT in lessons?

What is the picture in Greece compared with the average picture in Europe?

WE SHOULD NOT FORGET THATNOT BEING ABLE TO USE ICT TODAY, WILL

MAKE OUR STUDENTS OPERATIONALLY ILLITERAL TOMORROW……

PROPOSALS

• Ministries of Education should provide funding to equip

schools

• Seminars of how to apply ICT in Educational Process

should be organized

• Training and facilitation to teachers to use ICT

Because tomorrow started from Yesterday, when in 400 bc Socrates said:

“I will only ask him. I will not

teach him. He will investigate

with me and if you notice me

talking or explaining it would

be for him to express his

opinion.”

THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION
