The future network convergence and industry
transformation will enable people to access
information at their fingertips, anytime,
anywhere, which also serves as both an
opportunity and a challenge for telecom
service and solution providers.
IEEE 802.16e-2005, an open standard for
broadband wireless access, opens a window
for new service opportunity. It enables a fast
deployment for an economical mobile
broadband network, which can help operators
build competitive advantages by providing
revenue-generating applications and services.
WiMAX Forum, which has consisted of over
410 members varying from service providers,
components vendors, R&D institutions and so
on, has been committed to the realization of
the cutting-edge technology. The world's
leading silicon suppliers have been strong
supporters for WiMAX. Hundreds of terminals
manufactures joining the industry is no doubt a
boost for the development of WiMAX eco-
system as the availability and affordability of
WiMAX CPEs would likely to be improved
dramatically.
Huawei has been devoted to realizing the
vision of enriching life through communication
and has become one of the pioneers in
WiMAX 16e key technology research and
development. Being one of a few E2E solution
providers, Huawei is especially privileged to
benefit from years of leading positions and
hand-on experiences in full-suite of technolo-
gies like wireless, IP networking, intelligent
network, transmission, service & applications
etc.
So far Huawei has engaged over 600 engineers
in WiMAX R&D. Own to the huge investment
in WiMAX, currently Huawei has owned close
to 5% core technology related patents in IEEE
and WiMAX Forum. Huawei started 802.16e
compliant product deliveries in Q4 of 2006 and
will progressively enhance the products and
solutions during this year and beyond.

The Adoption of 4G Key
Technology
Innovative Base Station lowers
TCO
Huawei WiMAX deploys a highly efficient
antenna system, multiple-input/multiple-output
(MIMO) that can transmit and receive the
wireless data on multiple antennas in parallel. A
combination of Spatial multiplexing and
diversity can both improve capacity and
reliability, and therefore high spectral efficiency
can be achieved.
Huawei's distinctive distributed Base Station,
which consists of Base Band Unit (BBU) for
indoor installation and Remote Radio Unit (RRU)
for wall- or pole-mounted. An Advanced Power
Module (APM) can be used to accommodate
BBU for outdoor installation. The use of optical
fiber cable to connect BBU and RRU assures low
Customized Solutions for All
Application Scenarios
Based on Huawei's WiMAX product family,
applications like fixed broadband wireless access,
nomadic, portable broadband, backhaul and
bridging applications can all be well served with
a customized solution of great flexibility and
long term evolution. Special requirement for
SMB, service providers, cable operators, mobile
operators, government and industries would be
taken fully consideration . For instance, for a 2G
operator without a 3G license, Huawei would
recommend a highly eff icient converged
WiMAX integrated with 2G solution with the
main features like site resource sharing, unified
AAA and Network Management system etc.
The end users can enjoy high-throughput
multimedia applications provided by WiMAX
and typical voice and low-speed data services

easy installation at low cost.
ASN-GW, named WASN9770, is based on a
telecom-grade platform with high reliability and
full redundancy provision. It serves as a gateway
toward Connectivity Service Network (CSN). It
can provide a capability of 1000 FA per unit with
total up to 600,000 active connections simulta-
neously. Huawei's WASN9770 can provide
basic functions defined in End-to-End Network
Architecture 1.0 from WiMAX Forum NWG.
Furthermore, it inherits the basic technologies of
data communications, such as integrated
routing technology, IP Quality of Service (QoS),
Virtual Private Network (VPN), and security
technology.

For mobile operators that own an existing
2G/3G network, Huawei provides a WiMAX 16e
hybrid solution integrating with exist ing
networks .With the solution, operators can
deploy the network phase by phase, starting
with a loosely coupled, enhanced loosely
coupled network and finally to a tightly couple
network. Operators can greatly benefit from site
resource sharing such as equipment room,
transmission resource, power and backup, to
save TCO.
Furthermore, at each stage, more and more
network elements, such as HA, HLR, AAA, O&M
etc, can be reused. Therefore, operators can fully
protect their current investment, and achieve
fast time-to-market and ROI.
For f ixed or startup operators, Huawei
provides WiMAX 16e end-to-end standalone
networking solutions with unified O&M . With
the perfect integration with IMS for an all-IP
network, WiMAX can del iver a greater
bandwidth at the lowest cost per megabit.
WiMAX + 2G Solution - A Competitive Advantage for 2G Operators
WiMAX + IMS/NGN Solution - Business Extension for Fixed/Startup Operators

related QoS parameter to WiMAX technology

Common User Experience
The key issue for end users to adopt innova-
tive applications is to keep common experi-
ence and user habit. Huawei's mobile
WiMAX solution provides a variety of QoS
and security guaranteed applications to end
users wi th un i f ied AAA and one b i l l .
Therefore, customer satisfaction can be
ensured.
Flexible Business Plan
TCO Saving
,With Huawei s mobile WiMAX solution, opera-
tors can design a flexible business plan, which is a
dominant factor to succeed in market. With
integrated solution, the existing network can be
used to provide tranditional voice and low speed
data service, and WiMAX is for services requiring
high throughput. Both post and pre-paid plan
can be supported to meet different customer
requirements.
For different operators, Huawei's mobile WiMAX
solution can take advantage of existing infra-
structure to lower the cost of implementation
and achieve easy maintenance. According to
theoretical calculation, the TCO for WiMAX
deployment can be saved up to 30%.
