PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
What a fantastic evening we had last night at our SOL! Definitely a proud Principal
moment. The opportunity to showcase the learning that our students have been
involved in so far this year, to parents, family and community members was a great
pleasure for all of our hard working staff. There has been lots of positive feedback from
students, staff and parents.
It was quite incredible at the Track opening to see so many people taking advantage of
the lovely evening and walking (or running) the track with their family. Jeff had the
grounds looking spick and span, which really highlighted how beautiful our grounds are
and how well the Track fits in to our landscape.
A huge shout out to all staff members for their organisation of classrooms and
contributions to the Art Show. The hall display, coordinated by Mr Curtis, Mrs Newton
and Miss Stirland looked amazing and it definitely highlighted the quality artworks
presented by our students. Thanks to our SAKG volunteers who organised and ran the
produce stall. So many favourable comments from visitors about how great our garden
is looking. Thanks also to Mr Clarke and the choir, Mrs Rolfe and the dance group and
Mrs Parcsi for her entertaining movie that was on show in the library. I know many
people viewed it multiple times just to see Miss Moyle’s antics on the playground
equipment and Mrs Cheeseman’s dance moves.
And well done to the P&C volunteers who manned the BBQ and canteen. They did not
stop all night and actually sold out of food and drinks.

Howlong Little Athletics
Registrations are now open for the 2018/19 season of Howlong Little Athletics.
Little Athletics provides kids with a fun and family-friendly environment to learn the foundations
skills of track and field events. Getting fit, getting outdoors, meeting new friends and improving
coordination and confidence are all a part of Little Aths.
On Monday 15th October a "Come & Try Night" will be held at Lowe Square netball courts
starting from 5.30pm. This is an opportunity for families to meet the committee, ask questions
about Little Athletics and the season ahead, and get help with the registration process.
Registration for the season costs $80 per child and needs to be completed online at the Little
Athletics Victoria website (www.lavic.com.au). Children must turn 5 before December 31st to
be eligible for entry.
The season proper will commence on Monday nights from 29th October, going through to late
March with a break over Christmas and January.
Congratualations to Austin Alchin for

This term a group of students from K1CN have been involved in sessions on Friendship
Skills.
Fun activities have been utilised to learn and apply skills in areas such as;
inviting others to join in with their group, understanding how others are feeling, caring
about others, trusting others and being trustworthy, being kind, and knowing that we
can't always be best friends with everyone.

Landcare Visit to Howlong Public School Sally Hughes from Corowa Landcare visited 2S today
as a follow up to our Frogs and Logs excursion earlier in
the term. She was amazed at the fabulous frog projects
the students produced for home learning this term and
in particular, the Giant Burrowing Tree Fog Austin
made as part of his project. Sally was impressed with
Oliver’s presentation of The Sloane’s Froglet and the
way the class demonstrated a genuine interest and
knowledge of the importance of frogs in the
environment.
We walked to the back playground to show her how
well the native trees are progressing that Landcare
donated for National Tree Day and she gave us some
advice on nurturing the trees over the summer.

Debating
Throughout Term 3, 16 students competed in
the debating competition that was run by Miss
Amery. We learnt a lot about debating and
how it works as well as the skills involved. We
had our Grand Final this week. It was between
Rebels and T.H.A.T. It was a close debate and
congratulations to team T.H.A.T for being the
2018 debating winners and to everyone else
for participating. Thanks to Miss Amery for
making this happen. We really appreciate it.
