How to Use PowerPoint EffectivelyPresented By: Christine Gentry
Opening PowerPointFirst Questions:
“What do I do first?”“How do I add or delete slides?”“What size font should I use? Should I add “fancy”
details during my presentation?”“When presenting, should I add pictures, links,
graphs?”
What do I do first?First Click the PowerPoint application in the
start menu. You can find the PowerPoint application under the Microsoft Office folder. Once you open PowerPoint, a blank presentation will open with one slide.
From here you can browse around and find out what tool does what.
Being comfortable with using PowerPoint and knowing the different keys will be easier to understand and present a full presentation.
How do I add or delete slides?
When opening PowerPoint, there is always a column on the left hand side that shows each slide. To easily add slides, select the first slide and his the “enter or return” button to add as many slides as you wish for your presentations.
This same step can be used to delete slides as well.Examples of all of these questions will be given.
What size font should I use? Should I add “fancy” details during my presentation?
When presenting, you should always use size 22 font or bigger. It depends on how much information is on one slide.
With adding “fancy” details, there should only be details on three of your slides within your whole presentation. Having to much detail distracts the class or work environment and takes away from the presentation.
When presenting, should I add pictures, videos, graphs? One should add pictures, videos, and graphs.
However, they should be related to your topic. Adding to many pictures, videos, and graphs takes away from the presentation. There should not be pictures, videos, or graphs on every slide.
There are certain slide layouts that make it easier to add this information.
There are also slide designs that help the presentation, they can be different colors and have different effects on each slide. When applying this feature, it automatically goes on every slide in the presentation.
