2. Choose an available username and create account

*twitter will automatically let you know which username is available.
*Your username is also your “twitter handle.”
3. Twitter will provide a basic functions walkthrough:
*twitter will prompt you to follow popular celebrities or brands to get started.
*to follow simply click this icon.
*”following” means that you will receive the messages people tweet and be able to read them in your “timeline”
*accounts with this symbol simply mean that it is a verified entity – for example, that is the “real” CNN twitter account
*This is what it looks like when you’re already following another user.
*This is what it looks like when you don’t follow a user.
*This is what it looks like when you put your cursor over the “following” button – if you click, you will “unfollow” that user and won’t be receiving their tweets anymore.
4. Search contacts and start following!
*If you clicked “skip this step” when twitter suggested following popular accounts, a new window will appear prompting you to find people you want to follow.
*You can also search for your contacts from Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail and AOL.
5. Upload a picture and fill out your bio

What is a “retweet”? *A retweet is sharing a tweet. You can share someone’s tweet or they can share yours.
*There are 2 ways to retweet someone: 1. Put your cursor over someone’s tweet and the “Expand” “Reply” “Retweet” “Favorite” buttons will appear, click retweet.
2. Copy the tweet you want to retweet into your tweet box, place an “RT” and @(the twitter handle of the person you’re retweeting).
*Retweeting this way lets you add a comment to the tweet you’re sharing – add it before the RT.

What is a ”mention”?* A mention is when you place an “@” before someone’s twitter handle in a tweet.
* When you mention someone, they receive a notification.
* Additionally, it will create a link from your post to their twitter profile.

*When you click the “reply” button on someone’s tweet, twitter will automatically mention the original tweet poster and a conversation thread will be created:
What is a “DM”?* DM stands for “direct message,” a “private” message between you and someone
else.
*You can only send a direct message to someone you follow that follows you back.
