What is Chinese Kenpo?Kenpo is a street fighting self defense system. It utilizes powerful linear moves with circular flowing techniques and takedowns that blend with continuity. It is known for quick strikes and effective close range fighting, which makes it the "hard-soft" style it is called.

Pivoting the base legTurning the base foot is important because:

it opens the hips in order for the kick to extend towards the targetit maintains posture of the kickit prevents the hips from getting injured.

Knee positionKnee position allows the foot to quickly snap the kick from the knee.

Front kickSteps

1.Turn feet forward

2.Pivot the base leg 45º outward.

3.Bring the back leg to knee position.

4.Snap kick from knee and hit with the ball of the foot to the target.

5.Return leg to knee position.

6.Return kicking leg back to fighting stance.

Back kickSteps

1. Turn feet forward

2. Pivot base leg 45˚ outward.

3. Bring back leg to knee position

4. Snap kick from the knee backwards toward target while looking over the shoulder of the kicking leg.

5. Return leg to knee position.

6. Return kicking leg back to fighting stance.

Round KickSteps

1. Turn feet forward

2. Pivot the base leg 170º-180º outward.

3. Bring the back leg to knee position.

4. Snap kick from knee and hit with the instep of the foot to the target.

5. Return leg to knee position.

6. Return kicking leg back to fighting stance.

Side KickSteps

1. Turn feet forward

2. Pivot the base leg 170º-180º outward.

3. Bring back leg to knee position tucking the knee into the chest

4. Snap kick from the knee and strike with a stomping motion towards the target.

5. Return leg to knee position.

6. Return kicking leg back to fighting stance.

Hook KickSteps

1. Turn feet forward

2. Pivot the base leg 170º-180º outward.

3. Bring the back leg to knee position.

4. Extend leg out and whip the bottom of the foot across the target in a hooking motion.

5. Return leg to knee position.

6. Return kicking leg back to fighting stance.

Guided practiceWith a partner, without making contact, kick back and forth towards the knee, stomach or the head.
