How to Make Classroom Posters Using Power Point
Open Power Point. Click Blank Presentation. Click File.
Click on Options.
Click on Advanced
Setting Up Your Page
Go to Image Size and Quality
Click on the box besideDo not compress images in file.
Click on OK.
Now on the Home tab,
Click on Layout.
Then Click on Blank.
Next click on the Design tab. Click on Slide Size.
Click on Custom Slide Size.
Click on Portrait.
Change Width to 8.5 in
Change Hight to 11 in
Click on Ok
Click on Ensure Fit
Now your ready to start your poster!
Add Text To Your Poster
Click on the Insert Tab and click on Insert Text.
Click on the page and drag across the page to make the text box. Then type the text for your poster. Highlight your text and choose the font you wish to use. We will be using Comic Sans MS today.
A wonderful safe site to find free fonts to add to your computer is TpT. Most fonts are free for personal, classroom use. https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Browse/Search:fonts/Price-Range/Free
Click on Font size. Set it at 116 by typing in the number.Click on center text.
Now let’s get creative. Change “trying” to all Caps by backspacing and retyping “TRYING”. Click on Drawing Tools Format Click on Text Outline Click on black
Highlight each letter on its own in Mistakes and Trying. For each letter click on Text Fill then the color you wish the letter to be.
Now we are going to add some effects to the lettering. Highlight “Mistakes” Click on Text effects. Click on Bevel
Put your curser on the different types of Beveling and watch what happens to the lettering. Choose the Bevel effect you like the best. I liked Angle. Repeat for “TRYING”.
To add shadows to your text. Click on 1. Text Effects, 2. Shadow then slide your curser over the different shadow effects until you find one you like.

Now to add a Boarder. Go to Insert Click on Shapes Click on Rounded Rectangle
Drag the rectangle across your text. When you release your mouse the rectangle will be a solid blue.
Click on Shape Fill
Click on No Fill
Click on Shape Outline
Click on the color Black
Click on Weight to set thickness
Click on Dashes toset the type of dashes you would like to use

To create a backwards “k” search your computer for the Snipping Tool. To do Click on the Flying Windows Icon and type Snipping Tool
Click on Snipping Tool
A new window will come up.
Click on New
It will give you a plus sign
Drag the plus over the “k”to highlight it. If you have trouble highlighting the “k” add a space between the “a k e” and try again.
Click
Double click on the new “k”
Click on Color
Click on Set Transparent Color
Take the new curser and click on the white background of the new “k”
This will remove the white background of the snipped “k”
Resize the new “k” so it matches the size of the original “k”
When you think you have it, delete the first “k”. Hit your spacebar two times and insert the snipped “k”.
Click Format Click Rotate Flip Horizonal
Time to SaveFirst Save the Power Point as normal. I named this Power Point “Mistakes”. Do this so if you want to make changes later on you will not need to recreate the slide.
The second Save will be done as a PDF.
Go to File Click Save As
Click on PDF
Click Save
Time to PrintClick on the Printer Icon
Click on Poster
Set the percentageto 193%
Click on Poster again.
Look at your preview.You will see that this poster will take 4 pages to print.
Make sure you are printing in color.
Click on Properties
Click on Color
Click on OK
Click on Print
