how to avoidresin floor failure

resin flooring systems deliver a host of performance benefits

www.flowcrete.com

excellent strength, lifecycle cost savings, high chemical & slip resistance as well as an enhanced hygiene profile

but sometimes… things can go wrong

www.flowcrete.com

new

so what steps can you take to prevent your brand spanking new floor from failing?

www.flowcrete.com

firstly... always and i mean always, use an applicator approved or licensed by the flooring manufacturer

www.flowcrete.com

this will ensure the most professional finish for your new floor

www.flowcrete.com

next, it’s all about the substrate preparation… the only alternative is failure

www.flowcrete.com

apply resin systems to a strong, well prepared substrate for a floor with lasting integrity

www.flowcrete.com

if you’re working with newly laid concrete, you’ll need to ensure all laitance is removed

www.flowcrete.com

the substrate must be clean, dry & free from dust, oils, grease & other residue…

www.flowcrete.com

any old, de-bonded, loose or flaking resin must be also be removed

www.flowcrete.com

this may require vacuum assisted shot blasting, diamond grinding, or scarification

www.flowcrete.com

but this has to be done to ensure proper adhesion between the substrate & new resin finish

www.flowcrete.com

if your substrate is damp, on or below grade, or has been newly laid you may need to apply a surface damp proof membrane

www.flowcrete.com

this will prevent the finished floor from blistering or delaminating as a result of rising moisture at a later stage

www.flowcrete.com

you will also need to apply the appropriate primer prior to the installation of the resin finish

www.flowcrete.com

again to ensure a long-lasting, well-bonded & durable finish

www.flowcrete.com

if you think your substrate might be weak or poor quality, you may have to first apply a screed layer

www.flowcrete.com

this will ensure a sound, level surface suitable for installation of resin floor finishes

www.flowcrete.com

finally, you’ll need to think about regulating your installation conditions

www.flowcrete.com

mixing the materials in the right way, under the right conditions can make a world of difference

www.flowcrete.com

preventing external contamination during installation & cure is also a must

www.flowcrete.com

this will prevent incurring considerable delays & financial penalties

www.flowcrete.com

but most important…don’t forget the golden rule!

www.flowcrete.com

always use a well-informed, highly-skilled & manufacturer-approved application team
